L.F....try this little experiment to test the tolerance in Texas.........

Ride around a white neighbor hood with a carload of your black or Hispanic friends.

We used to do this in University Park and make book on how long it would take till we got pulled over.

edit on 21-3-2011 by whaaa because: (no reason given)

Been there, done that. We drove through Highland Park looking at all the rich people's houses.

Our first apartment in the metroplex was near Vickery Park, and I walked to work every day. No problems.

I also walked through Oak Cliff alone, and was not even looked at. I am white. I had a white GF that lived in that section of Dallas.

So being pulled over is worse than being stoned to death for adultery.

What is this . . . Bizarro world?

Good luck with your referendum. I hope Scotland has the balls to do this in a few years time.

The fact that the average Iranian is 1000% more tolerant than the average Texan? Comparing the two peoples I would feel much safer and accepted by even the Taliban than Texans and I'm a white guy!

No... you're wrong. Come on down and we'll change your mind. I live in one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the world and we all seem to get along fine... deep in the heart of Texas. No... not Dallas... they live in their own little, small, very tiny world. Seriously brother... we got all kinds of people here and we actually like each other... lol...

And no... the drug cartels would not take over. One of the first things we'll do after leaving the Socialist States of Amerika is to legalize it!! After all.... this is Texas....

Yeah, Texas is full of amazing people. I lived there for a fer years while in the Army (and after I got out). The worst part of that statement is the word "lived" because I love and miss Texas so much. If it were not for my future wife, I'd be down there now... but she is from Ohio, born and raised.

I lived outside of Austin, in the small town of Hutto (Hutt-oh) and absolutely loved my time out there. I have never been to a place that had so many friendly people. You could literally go to a park, walk across a bridge, and stop someone just to talk if you were bored. People there love to chat and are usually friendly unless you are in the ghetto parts of downtown, but even then I was never scared; people just wouldn't talk to you was all.

The only problem I had, in all honesty, was dealing with customers that could not speak a lick of English. I did installs for DirecTV, but I knew what I needed to do... so if they couldn't understand me, I just did things how I thought they needed to be done.

I digress, I think Texas would be better off if it could stay a part of the Union, but get a lot more freedom to control its borders and laws. The Feds are getting way to pushy these days. They forget, they are meant to help the states, not rape them. Independent states are suppose to have the final say in what happens if it was specifically mentioned in the ORIGINAL US Constitution.

I would rather cut off my own fellas with a spork than go to Texas willingly for any reason.

IMO we should just sell it back to Mexico for a couple of burritos.

You are WAY to sane for this place. You have to understand, this is where crazy people can speak their mind.
Like Whatukno, who thinks an entire state is poison to his/her soul.
Think about that!
I know Hutto. I pedaled a bike all over Central Texas. Yo hablo espanol, just so I know what the hell some people are talking about, but I still think English should be the official language.
And, lo mejor de mis amigos?
They agree.

Jose Martinez tells me he really likes Texas just the way it is. Land of opportunity. Lots of highway, and plenty of places to hide.
We take a drink of beer.
I thank him for the laying hens, and tell him that his maquina is fixed. Gratis.
We shake hands.
And take another drink of cerveza.
No internet bravado. Jose doesn't do internet. But he can manage a ranch, and provide a home to your kid if need be.
Good friend, Jose. Good conservative. REAL conservative, just like Stewie.

I have just read through 26 pages and can’t take any more from people who don’t understand Texas!!
I’m a Texan and dang proud of it! The Lone Star is the only flag that hangs outside my home. Yes, I’m an American but I’m a TEXAN first. My family came to Texas from Germany in 1848 to find a better life. They found it and all I can say is…God Bless Texas!
In case y’all don’t know anything about Texas; here’s a little lesson for y’all.
We are a proud people and love our state. We are polite. We say yes sir, no ma’am, please and thank you. We have manners and abide by a code of honor. And men hold doors for ladies too!
We love our trucks and the gas that powers them. Those battery operated cars can’t pull a horse trailer and are useless on the ranch.
We work hard for our money and most of us don’t expect handouts from the government.
We take care of our family and neighbors. If someone is down on their luck folks will band together and give them a hand.
Most of us don’t talk on our cell phones in public places. That’s rude and disrespectful to everyone around you.
We have signs along the highway that read, “Drive friendly, it’s the Texas way.” We don’t honk or give fingers to people. If you do that sort of thing someone will straighten you out real quick. We got road signs that read, “DUI? You can’t afford it.” And don’t be surprised if you see a tricked out Escalade pulling someone over on the highway with a sign on it that says, “This vehicle was confiscated from a local drug dealer.” You don’t want to mess with a Texas Ranger and I’m not talking baseball!
We love our guns which is why we don’t have a lot of crime. If one bad guy pulls out a gun, 20 good guys will pull theirs too. Guess who wins? Houston was talking about flying drones over the city to control crime. I figured if they did, It wouldn’t be long before we had “drone” season and started selling tags.
We respect our land and got a lot of it! (About 267,338 square miles. Only Alaska is bigger than us)
Natural resources…You bet! We got oil, lumber, water, natural gas, coal, silver, gold etc.
We got cattle, deer, chickens, horses, crops and plenty of hard workers to tend to all of it.
Did I mention we have our own power grid? (Which the feds are trying to take away from us now)
We are God loving people who live in a right or wrong world. It’s black or white; no gray area here. (And I’m not talking about skin color either.) If you abide by the law and keep your nose clean life will be good for you in Texas.
Color don’t matter here as long as your blood runs Texan.
Many local business owners are 3rd and 4th generation. In some places deals are still done with a handshake.
We are not politically correct and will say exactly what we think. If you don’t like what you hear, shed that thin skin, consider the source, put your fingers in your ears and move along.
In many of our cities and towns we can leave our homes and trucks unlocked and no one will mess with anything.
This is just my opinion and I certainly don’t speak for all Texans, but I do know the things I have mentioned pretty much hold true in North, East and West Texas. Sorry to y’all in South Texas. In a state this big you gotta expect some problems. It’s nothing we can’t sort out if we could take matters into our own hands.
I guess the reason the rest of the United States hates Texas is because we work hard, play hard, and when it comes down to the basics of existence we don’t really need the rest of the country. We got everything we need right here. We might struggle, but the Texas spirit will pull us through. And we have been known to fight till the end…Remember the Alamo?
Don’t kid yourself…Not a lot of Texans talk openly about succession but if the bull sh*t gets deep enough…The world will understand what ‘”You don’t mess with TEXAS!” means and it not a trash campaign.
A lot of Texans have been “Getting Ready” for a long time. It’s a whisper that could turn into a roar if things get bad enough.
Think what you want about Texas but don’t underestimate us! We will do what we need to do to survive. If it means succession….SO BE IT!

I am all for you and Texas leaving the union. I support the idea of getting rid of Texas for all the reasons that you have put down.

May I add a few others?

Texans cannot drive a canyon road. I have observed this time and time again while growing up in the mountains of Colorado and having to help pull car after car with Texas licence plates from over the cliff edge.

So, anything I can do to force people to remain in Texas and thus save lives, I am for.

I hold Texas personally responsible for the assassination of JFK. I personally believe it was a widespread conspiracy among Texans to gun down the president, and Lee Harvey Oswald was picked to be the gunman by majority Texan vote. This is why so many Texans were out along the route that day, to make sure that Oswald did his job, if he chickened out it is my belief that one of the many gun holding Texans there would have done the deed.

Jack Ruby was just sent in to make sure that Oswald kept his mouth shut.

So yes, I agree that Texas should leave the Union as soon as possible, and I hope that it does, but if you can do me a favor and take Arizona with you, that would be nice.

OK.....
So, I've been living in Texas for the past 4 years- and having lived all over the country- as well as Europe...I have to say, that Texas in and of itself is alright...
but the people...
***at least in the DFW area***
Well, to be completely honest- FROM MY OBSERVATIONS AS WELL AS PERSONAL EXPERIENCE...
the most pretentious, fake, superficial, two-faced, materialistic society I've ever encountered (overall- of course there are always exceptions)
And the men here- WOW...chauvinistic, shallow and promiscuous.

I really wish this wasn't the case, but EVERY SINGLE PERSON I know here that's not from Texas, thinks/feels EXACTLY the same way.

Just saying...
Maybe it's just the DFW area...(I REALLYYYY HOPE SO!)

Central Texans among nation's worst drivers

Texas drivers are among the worst in the country, and Austin drivers are among the worst of the worst, according to a survey released Tuesday by Allstate Insurance Co.

A month later and Texas is still sitting under the Union. Maybe the OP can give us an update on that secessionist bill.
