I made a rather large purchase in New York and paid sales tax of 8.25% on the item. I already paid income tax on that money when I earned it and when I spent it I got jacked for another chunk. One of the incentives offered by the selling party was a $1500 rebate, basically they're giving me back some of my money. Here's the problem...
I already paid income tax plus 8.25% sales tax on that money, when I spend the rebate money I will be taxed at 8.25% AGAIN so I'm actually being double taxed at 16.5% on every rebate dollar. I know it's obvious and simple math but I just never really thought about it until now. God forbid I spend those dollars on cigarettes or gas because the state will end up with about a 50% of it!
I despise New York.

Perhaps now youre getting to see the perversity of it as intended, You now exist only to feed the beast. And, if that's the case, it also follows that when you intend to stop feeding it, it intends to feed upon you.
The only choice you have is to accept and modify the rate at which it will strip you of all value and potential.
Taxation upon taxation is the new serfdom and once accepted/allowed will not stop of its own accord, as the very intent is total domination.
You now exist to support a kleptocracy, and it will get much worse. The only way to not feed the beast is to buy used or make your own, but dang, that's not the current style..

Try living in NS Canada.

Example:

Earned 1,000.00
Taxed @ 35% = 650.00 remaining.

Then 15% HST on the remaining 650.00 when spent at the till or utilities etc. = Another 97.50 stolen.
552.50 remaining!

Here is a list that applies to both Canada and the US. Not all are in both Countries but you get the picture.

in canada that's been normal for years. when you buy gasoline, there's a tax on top of the provinical tax, then theres' another tax on top of the federal tax and then there's the gasoline tax.

and apparently canada has the second largest oil reserve in the world, yet we pay like we're an oil starved european country instead of rich middle eastern prices of 25 cents a gallon.

holy snikes that is a disturbing list! one actually has to scroll down the page. OMG. that is frickin insane.

very effective post indeed. we should make that into 8 1/2 X 11 Posters and start plastering windshields at supermarkets, people frickin' love to shop, that should wake up most of the country in a week.

i've bitched often and at length at how many times the working slob gets taxed/raped by the time a paycheck dollar is actually spent but your list is cold water in the face. wonder how much it would cost to mail that like a postcard. incredible.

The one that gets me is your income tax return. Yes folks, here in the good old US of A you get taxed on the money received from over payment of taxes. I've never understood that.

In effect, you are getting taxed twice on the same income.
