Woman loses finger over $80 debt

www.kob.com

Albuquerque police are trying to find two men who are accused of kidnapping a woman and cutting off one of her fingers off over an $80 debt.

Samantha Hernandez was dropped off by two men at the Walmart near San Mateo Blvd. and Central Ave. on Friday after her horrifying ordeal in the mountains that left her with just nine fingers.

Well it seems this not so lucky lady needed a ride home from the casino... called these two men and one of them drove her up to the mountains beat her up then cut off her pinkie finger with a pair of shears...

all for the sake of an $80 debt....

Seems her grandparents gave this woman the money to pay off said debt too...

Somebody stop the world, I wanna get off now...

samantha should have paid her debt.

I don't know how much money these guys have. But if they are hard up, and depending on the circumstances, i could understand why a situation would elevate to that level.

The guys still need to go to jail, but decisions are decisions right? The girl evidently didn't pay up when her grandparents gave her the money. Its the type of risk many people would take, she is just the unlucky one who had the bad decision catch up with her.

All I'm saying is when did we get to the point where taking a persons finger is considered repayment for a small debt???

Surely they could have found some other way of repayment? housecleaning cooking something...anything

I agree with ya there. but obviously the people this girl hangs out with are shady characters, and she is probably one herself. Or young and stupid, either way.

I mean two days ago i saw my friends brother stab someone twice in the face for basically nothing.

People are screwed up. It was this girls misjudgement to get involved with people who would do that,. And to string them along long enough that they would follow through`

Maybe someone can cut these guys nonexistent things off. Then pour hot boiling oil over them, see how they like it. Bunch of wackjobs.

I wonder if this is one of those stories where the person did it to themselves. Remember the acid in the face woman? Remember balloon boy? It is not unusual or unheard of for people to do things for attention or in hopes of getting some sort of monetary help.

I will hold out judgment until we know for sure. A part of me though wants to call hoax on the two guys part of the story.

If there really are two guys that did this I hope they are found.

It’s a small price to pay for a big boost to these guys’ reputation. Cutting someone's finger off adds more to your tough-guy image than forcing them to do your ironing every week for 5 years!

I expect that's all it came down to, hopefully it was a decision that will catch up with them. Needless to say, she should have paid them back.

She is actually lucky. In the ghetto she would have been killed over 8 dollars.

Pay your drug dealers.

I mean obviously this woman has problems and she has more than likely done this before. I've owed many a person money over drugs and it took a few times before I was threatened and when I was it was over $12.

Now I'm not saying that there is some kind of drug dealer ethics or guidebook but if they resorted to this then I say it wasn't her first offense.

And true while it doesn't claim why they did this it reeks of drug dealer vengeance. The set up by a "friend" (probably for drugs) The fact her grandparents
gave her the money to pay it off. (where's mom and dad?). Also New Mexico.. Yeh probably meth related and the meth Heads are a crazy lot so ...........

This is sad and I'm glad she wasn't killed, but no sympathy for the devil. Maybe this will wake her up to getting some real help instead of robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Also ...... When You owe a dealer money they want their money not a housekeeper or your PS3. Some dealers work on the barter system sometimes but at the end of the day .......

This isn't some new thing that makes the world a worse place than ever. I think people have a bad habit of glorifying the past and taking for granted our increased exposure to national and international news in the information age and taking this as in increase in bad things happening.

The reality is today's world is very tame compared to where it was 100 years ago today. 100 years ago a minority involved in a bad element who owed money probably would only even get minimal investigation by authorities and if the issue wasn't handled by friends and family it would have never been handled and probably never reported unless of course she died of infection then the only record would be on a death certificate.

In today's world these people will be captured by law enforcement and made to pay for what they have done. Sending a message to the bad guys this will not be tolerated. I for one would rather live in today's world.

I'm just glad credit card and mortgage companies don't resort to this. I'll bet if they did though we would see a lot less unresolved debt...

They dropped her off at walmart? Of all places, WALMART? I couldn't imagine chopping someones finger off and go ok now where do we take her? Hmmm... How about walmart!? I don't see the logic, maybe they should have dropped her off at the hospital

Wal-Mart has band-aids, hydrogen peroxide, and ice cream at prices way better than the hospitals!

I mean if I was broke and just lost my finger I think Wal-mart is as good a place as any. I'd probably prefer a liquor store though...
