I'm in France, and still battling what sounds liek the same thing!

I thought I just had a bad flu, for about two weeks, then it got better.
But then had a relapse, even worse.
I tend to use home remedies and rest, but during the second bout, I could no longer sleep because I was hackign all night, and had so much trouble breathing during the day, so I went to the doctor.
My entire family was so sick at that point, it was horrible!
I was put on antibiotics and anti inflammatories for ten days, with no difference. Then we tried another antibiotic and it seemed to help, I got better.
But after a few days of feeling normal again, I am relapsing, starting with the sinus.
My husband is in the medical field and doctors are telling him there is an epidemic, and relapses are common. Doctors are being flooded with patients.

There has been no chemtrails, and I have a bakery in which I give people bread wit my hands, so have hand disinfectant on my counter that I use between each client- probably hundreds of times a day- and it apparently made no difference in keeping me from catching this.

Much of our village has it right now.

If its a virus, antibiotics wont work. If its bacrteial then they should but there is still NO guarantee. Snus infections have been rampant here in the UK too, i've had congestion on and off for months. I am on Naso-Nex, a steriodal spray to help it but it doesnt clear it. Dr says take it for a month and report back if it aint helped. I'm due to go back so i'm going to ask for antibiotics to see if tat will help, if not i'll get an appointment with the ENT specialist.

People passing out because of congestion is a strange one, congestion is usually in the Ear canals or sinus', if you have a blocked nose people tend to breathe through the mouth, why didnt these people do that?

If they did then its not the congestion thats making them pass out, its the lack of ability for the lungs to transfer oxygen to the blood stream so its more likely to be something lung orientated i.e. Pnuemonia, COPD, Asthma etc.

OP, keep us up-to-date with the results.

edit to add: Not had a flu shot before

Bronchial inflammation (bronchitis) and pleuritis. both of which can result from influenza, are known to cause hypoventilation and passing out. Not commonly, but it can/does happen.

I also find it a bit funny that people are babbling on about taking this antibiotic or that antibiotic, all while being certain the sickness is caused by a virus. So many self-proclaimed "experts" in this forum, and only one person so far has pointed out that antibiotics don't have anything to do with viral infections.

Here in Des Moines Iowa - same thing running rampant. Now my husband and I have it. We have not passed out but for the last week and a half I am up coughing all night, even after taking NyQuil which usually knocks me out. Also have had sinus problems, but I have never had allergies so its not that. Ive been scrubbing everything down with bleach to kill the germs.

Bronchitis and Pleuritis are conditions of the lungs and airways leading to and in the lungs, i thought the OP ws reffering to 'normal' congestion of sinus'. The passing out from hypoventiliation would surely be caused by the lack of oxygen going to the brain? No?

Perhaps this was already covered, but antibiotics will NOT work on Viral infections. If the virus weakened the body enough, then a bacteria has the propensity to infect the host.
I was recently and briefly assigned to a central Indiana hospital in regards to the care of a 32 year old patient that has H1N1. This patient was unconscious and attached to a ventilator. Their respiratory secretions continued to be remarkable even after xopenex aerosol therapy. The patients core body temperature was 105 and a cooling blanket was initiated, lowering the temperature down to 103. The temperature was refractory to NSAIDS and IV steroid therapy. All IV antiviral medications were refractory to this strain of H1N1. This unfortunate patients prognosis is dismal at best.

Hmmm I just heard on the local news this morning that an entire middle school has to be tested for Tuberculosis. One of the students came down sick and tested positive. They said that the only way kids can come to school now is if they have a note from a Dr. stating that they have been tested and are fine. I wonder if what is going around is Tuberculosis. Have any of you that have been sick with this been tested for TB?

Symptoms of TB can include a cough of longer than three weeks, unexplained weight loss, night sweats, chills, fever and coughing up blood.

That is the symptoms my wife has, but the ER says it is bronchitis. They didn't do any cultures though.

TB is preventable and curable. TB disease is treated for six to nine months with antibiotics. A person with TB will become non-contagious within a few days to weeks of effective treatment, and will be able to return to normal activities without risk to others while completing treatment.

Another FYI, Florida is closing down our A.G. Holley State hospital were our TB-resistant patients are housed. It is a bit news story in the state.

Best of luck!
My biggest fear currently regarding the medical institution is Staff Infections, namely MRSA and her sisters. Already antibiotic resistant and if this does get out of control we are looking at a very large mess that I don't think anyone in our lifetime has seen. Possibly the new "Black Death".

Again, hope all is well with your family,

Respectfully,

M

Central Europe here. I had a sore throat a week and a half ago, which then turned into both bronchitis and sinusitis with over 39 C fewers. Amoxicillin, along with lots of teas with honey, loads of squeezed lemon juice and garlic (honey, garlic and lemon, in insane quantities - my reccomended remedy for any infection) seems to got rid of it (altrough some occasional but heavy dry cough attacks are still there, and doesnt want to go away), so it probably wasnt the superbug, or viral infection.
This year flu and illness season was not so hard than some previous ones over here as far as I know, no flu epidemics, or superbugs, and with the weather finally getting more warm, I hope its slowly coming to an end.

I have never had a flu shot, so no, that is not it. I refuse to get one of those things.

I now know 4 people who have come down with this nasty virus here with in the past 2 weeks. They are congested for a long time, been to the Dr., took the Zpack which didnt work much, and all of them got so congested they could not breathe and passed out. One of them is STILL in the hospital where they are runing a bunch of tests, and still dont know more than "some virus". This is so ODD and seems to be spreading fast. I know quite a few more who have bad congestion that the Zpack just wont work for but have not passed out yet and hopefully will not. I cant imagine getting so congested that I literly can not draw a breath.

Anyone have a clue as to what this is? Anyone else hearing of this around their areas?

Well, seeing as the Z-Pak is "an azalide, a subclass of macrolide antibiotics", that makes sense why it wouldn't touch a virus.

I live in Portland, OR and have been totally sick for well over a week now. Cough and sore throat as some others have mentioned, but the WEIRD thing is that my temp has been running 94 degrees F (I usually run right at 98.6 or so) I'm still feel really crappy and am heading into day ten. My temp is 95.9 now so hopefully I'm coming out of it but now my son is running the 94F too. I've never heard of having what is essentially hypothermia with the flu...??

I am amazed that people still don't seem to understand that fact. They are all so quick to rush to the doctor and demand antibiotics when most upper respiratory illness is virus-caused...influenza included. There is very little that can be prescribed for viral infection that will have an effect other than to alleviate symptoms.

Antibiotics are beneficial for the bacterial secondary infections that can occur after the damage is done by the virus; sinusitis, pneumonia, etc. but you are wasting money and contributing to the development of antibiotic resistant bacteria if you try to take them at every illness.

I didn't even go to a doctor for this illness. My hunch that it was viral played out. I've endured enough of these yearly bugs to know the symptoms and use home treatments.

Now, I did need antibiotics last year after H1N1 because I ended up with pneumonia...the symptoms switched gears and my lungs really started gurgling, thankfully it was cleared up in quick order.
