An opinion poll suggesting far-right leader Marine Le Pen could win the first round of next year's presidential election has caused a shock in France.

The survey for Le Parisien newspaper puts the National Front leader, who took over from her father Jean-Marie in January, ahead of all other candidates.

It gives her 23% of the vote, 2% ahead of both President Nicolas Sarkozy and Socialist leader Martine Aubry.

Marine Le Pen has taken control over the French National Front Party which is a Nationalist, Anti-globalist, Protectionist, and Eurosceptic political party which is labeled as Right-wing in France. Since Marine Le Pen was able to moderate the views of the party after taking it over from her father the opinion polls for her and her party have sky rocketed to record levels. Now appearing to come in first place in the polls for President of France with the elections coming up in 2012.

Nicolas Sarkozy in the past year has moved further right to stop the drainage of votes from his party to the rising National Front, apparently this attempt to win right-wing voters has not proven so successful.

Party platform:

• A return to traditional values: to include making access to abortion more difficult or illegal; giving an income to mothers who do not go out to work; promoting local traditional culture.
• Greater independence from the European Union and other international organizations.
• The establishment of tariffs or other protectionist measures against cheap imports.
• Firm sentences for all crimes and reinstatement of the death penalty for "the most heinous crimes".
• The end of Non-European immigration and the establishment of the jus sanguinis.

I agree with every position stance listed above, I do hope this party can become powerful in France under the leadership of Marine. This could finally be the awakening of the European people to the disasters of the EU, limitless immigration, and globalism for the rich.

My son's girlfriend is French and works in Paris. In the midst of her O0 la la's I hear it seems to be about the huge numbers of immigrants that have arrived and also a vote cast against Sarkozy.

Well would you look at that??? The French it would seem are in the process of regaining their commons sense and self respect. If they keep this up, I might see a day when I don't have to down play the French portion of my heritage. Go France, and Viva La Testicles!!!!

As a Caucasian I can honestly say I want Europe to remain ethnically traditional. I view Europe as the "home" of white people with our long history, traditions and culture based there. I'm not a fan of the muslim populations in europe whether it's the turks in Germany or the north Africans in France or Italy. I think everyone should be treated fairly and have the same rights but ultimately i'm concerned with Europe's ability to sustain a Caucasian majority. It's hard to explain how I feel without sounding like a racist nutcase but i'm a dual citizen and even though I live in the US I still care very much about my people across the Atlantic. I just find it incredibly ironic that just when the US starts moving to the left Europe starts moving to the right....

I completely understand what you are saying and I do not think it is racist at all. It is about sustaining tradition and providing every group of people with a place to call home. Europe is the traditional home of Caucasian culture, languages, and philosophies which have created extensive development throughout the world. This does not mean Asians, Africans, Arabs, Indians, or any other group of people is inferior.

I strongly support the idea of Egyptians having a strong nation to call their own and the idea of Chinese having a strong nation. I strongly support an Arab world for the Arab people, and Asian world for the Asian people, etc… I do not think multiculturalism helps either the natives or the immigrants, it is better to have a place for each people to call home where their culture thrives independently, without restriction and without subjugation or persecution.

It would be amazing to visit the Middle East, to visit Latin America, to visit Europe, I would want to visit those areas because they have a specific people and culture. When every country is a mix of every different culture without being a melting pot like America, which Europe is not, then it removes the beauty and intrigue of individual nations, taking from them their individual identity and their culture.

Personally I believe the purpose of this is to remove the national culture so people have nothing to cling to in defense against globalism for the elite.

I pretty much agree with the whole premise of the thread and most posts, it's just.. you can't really have these views in Europe without automatically being labelled a racist by the media, the politicians and politically correct people.

At least where I'm at(Sweden), I hear my european neighbours are way more vocal about the issue.

Well if you're a globalist / Capitalist country trading in a global manufacturing market, Then manufacturing employers need immigrants from poor countries to come over and compete with the native workforce to keep wages low....And that is what i believe has happened.

But when you become a nationalist country, You can ban imports and allow only items manufactured in your country to be sold for the home market....Imo this would allow for higher wages and a better standard of living.

Natural immigration from equal countries isn't a problem, Its mass economic migrations from the poorer countries that affect a country's populace.

That's just my thoughts on the subject.

History note:
The whole reason for the large immigrant workforce in these European countries was due to ww2. Huge swaths of the workforce died in the war and labor was needed so they instituted short term worker programs to fill the gap until the native population could build back up. The problem is that these workers which were supposed to leave ended up staying causing the problems we see today.

A lot of these 'first wave' immigrants were and are a lot more acclimatized to their new countries than the newer immigrants who have all these enclaves set up, and they don't like the current immigration system one bit, they can see that it's harmful to the country and cut through the bull#.
So it's pretty ironic that a lot of them are voting for these anti-immigration parties when our detractors tell us we're all racist bigots.

So now we're just stuck with this mentality that for some unexplicable reason we're supposed to house the whole third world in our countries, end of discussion. It isn't immigration for the work force, it's immigration for god knows what reason, benevolence of course, but at the expense of the welfare of the country. So it's basically throwing money that could be used to help people abroad just to make the situation at home worse.. the costs are ridiculous and unsustainable without dismantling the welfare state.

What can you say.... it's life I guess

Just to add a little inappropriate levity to this University seminar, I will always remember Sarkozy as the man who criticized Obama's percieved weakness in the world and prompted James Delingpole to write: "It's a sad state of affairs when a Frenchman mocks the President of the United States and you have to go with the frog."

I'm a little worried about the tariffs and whether there will be an effect with the EU.
She'll probably get along quite nicely with Merkel. But, will that make Europe more of a target for violence than it has been?
If the world is electing conservative female presidents then perhaps the US will elect...... (I can't say it)

The "Front National" Party is also willing to return to a gold standard !

I haven't read anywhere else that another french party will also the return to a gold standard. If they're elected, and if they're really going to set up that gold standard, it could have huge consequences !

Well..

I think that's a relatively horrible platform to run on socially. Perhaps economically I can see the argument that protectionist measures can help a struggling economy. I don't believe any nation in today's world could get away with it for too long though.

As far as the non-European immigration stance, well, I honestly think it's xenophobic and only serves to divide people, instead of bringing them together.

You can't really say that you only want "your" people to live there when you're the people who pretty much trampled on everybody else's land for a long time.

It's just kind of ironic in that sense.
