just my observation here...
I've been a stay at home mom, and I've been a full time employee along with being a mom....
quite frankly, when I finally got in a position where I could work and had that job...
it was a vacation!!!
the toughest job I've ever done was staying at home and raising three boys!!!
that being said....
I think some people should not being judging those who are less fortunate than them, who need a job, and are finding them lacking. .......
ya know, creation sometimes has a tendency to plop your arse into a similar situation, just so you can find the understanding and know just how foolish you were!!!
just saying.....

I think you guys miss what me and justagyrl were saying. We are not bashing people for not being able to find work. We read something posted by someone that didn't seem to make sense. It seemed like utter lies to be honest. So we are refuting what was said.
For anyone that is having trouble getting work right now, I am sorry you are in that situation and I wish you the best of luck.
However, it is very easy for someone to spin a story that makes you feel sorry for them, especially if you are in what seems like the same situation. I am very critical with anyone that I engage with, and that's not because I feel, holier than thou, it's because I don't like being lied to or manipulated.
So if that makes me a douchebag than load my up with cleanser and toss me into a smelly fish box.

A major part of the problem is that the US government is acting as an enabler for those who are not employed. Through all the programs they provide so much aid to those not working that in many cases the person would end up taking a "pay cut" so to say if they went back to work! I personally know a couple people who had job offers but decided to stay on unemployment until it ran out because it was such a sweet deal.
I am still a firm believer if you are on govt assistance (and not physically disabled) you should be drug tested at a reasonable frequency and required to perform a minimum amount of community service.

I'm from Canada so I don't know how your IRS system is set up. But as far as I know taxes for married couples are filed as household income, and it is paid on that basis. Hence the whole legalities of marriage, you know, as in law.
Lets see, you are form Canada, dont work, and you here complaining on a thread about Americans on food stamps, and lecturing us about our government, and insulting Americans who cant find jobs.
To you, I say, Skate away you hoser, eh.

Quite Honestly if you had any idea how bad rheumatiod issues were you wouldn't be here knocking people down. I will stick by Amaratsu (sp) till the end because my very best friend has the very same issue, this woman should NOT be working at all!!!! It's a very debilitating thing and very very painful. If you had any clue, you'd know that. The fact she's even looking to work is absurd, she should be on Social Security Income, my friend is! And let me tell you, if you had those issues, I can bet you would NOT be looking to work! The ignorance on this thread is just astonishing!

I have read the entire thread and kept my mouth shut for a long time, now I must speak up.
It's so typical for all of you feeling like you are superior than everybody else.

Quite honestly I do know how bad RA is. And she doesn't have RA, she has a "similar condition". I agree with you she should be on SSI, not on ATS taking away the legitimacy from those really are out there looking for jobs.

I have never understood the need for people to kick others when they are down, especially when the person doing the kicking is in only a slightly better situation themselves.
I suppose it help's one to cope with the poor reality of their own existence by making themselves feel superior to someone or anyone they can.
Just remember that in this unpredictible ever changing world it may only be a matter of a short time before you too will find yourself down and out and in need. Im sure it will be a humbling experience for some.

Well were you ever in nursing school, they are all debilitating. I was a nursing student, and an EMT in the ARMY, so I think I am more qualified to know about these things!
Oh and the fact is she is looking for work when she could get SSI and should be, that to me is proof enough that she is not any type of "Loser" as you would make her out to be.edit on 8-3-2011 by ldyserenity because: sp & to add stuff

Disability in the US is a joke. People who really need and deserve it don't get it, after ten years of court battles trying to get it. And people who fake an injury or condition, get it almost right away. Really, it has nothing to do with whether or not you are disabled, but whether or not you can afford a good lawyer when you start your claim.
