just my observation here...
I've been a stay at home mom, and I've been a full time employee along with being a mom....
quite frankly, when I finally got in a position where I could work and had that job...
it was a vacation!!!
the toughest job I've ever done was staying at home and raising three boys!!!

that being said....
I think some people should not being judging those who are less fortunate than them, who need a job, and are finding them lacking. .......
ya know, creation sometimes has a tendency to plop your arse into a similar situation, just so you can find the understanding and know just how foolish you were!!!

just saying.....

I've been on all sides of the spectrum, when you are doing well everyone wants to be around you. When you are doing bad the only people that hang around want to share your pity.

I would say something in between is the best situation. Some people only want to know you if you are doing well, and some don't ever want you to do well for yourself. Human interaction is a curious thing and misery only draws the worst traits out of people.

That being said, I would never want someone to agree with me if I were making excuses for myself. That is a very corrupted person.

Quite Honestly if you had any idea how bad rheumatiod issues were you wouldn't be here knocking people down. I will stick by Amaratsu (sp) till the end because my very best friend has the very same issue, this woman should NOT be working at all!!!! It's a very debilitating thing and very very painful. If you had any clue, you'd know that. The fact she's even looking to work is absurd, she should be on Social Security Income, my friend is! And let me tell you, if you had those issues, I can bet you would NOT be looking to work! The ignorance on this thread is just astonishing!

I think you guys miss what me and justagyrl were saying. We are not bashing people for not being able to find work. We read something posted by someone that didn't seem to make sense. It seemed like utter lies to be honest. So we are refuting what was said.

For anyone that is having trouble getting work right now, I am sorry you are in that situation and I wish you the best of luck.

However, it is very easy for someone to spin a story that makes you feel sorry for them, especially if you are in what seems like the same situation. I am very critical with anyone that I engage with, and that's not because I feel, holier than thou, it's because I don't like being lied to or manipulated.

So if that makes me a douchebag than load my up with cleanser and toss me into a smelly fish box.

Gosh I couldn't agree more. You people please go back and read the whole thread and then come on here and respond.

A major part of the problem is that the US government is acting as an enabler for those who are not employed. Through all the programs they provide so much aid to those not working that in many cases the person would end up taking a "pay cut" so to say if they went back to work! I personally know a couple people who had job offers but decided to stay on unemployment until it ran out because it was such a sweet deal.

I am still a firm believer if you are on govt assistance (and not physically disabled) you should be drug tested at a reasonable frequency and required to perform a minimum amount of community service.

Bet that came around to bite them in the ass when they maxed out their benefit and there was no job waiting for them.

EDIT to add: And keep in mind that UI is an insurance that you pay for out of each check, just like Aflac. It's not welfare.

It's so typical for all of you feeling like you are superior than everybody else.

Lets see, you are form Canada, dont work, and you here complaining on a thread about Americans on food stamps, and lecturing us about our government, and insulting Americans who cant find jobs.

To you, I say, Skate away you hoser, eh.

Well, you pretty much explained why your country is turning to crap in your posts. You Americans all hate socialists but your country is run like a broken socialist system.

The only regret I have is that my country doesn't have the balls to turn off the supply of gas (70% of our production) to you ungrateful, people. Your country is run and controlled by interest groups and it is so corrupt that it is affecting my country.

I will spend the next few years watching my country dwindle into something yours is now, and watch yours sink even lower that it already is.

Damn us Canadians and not running to our government for handouts. Damn us and our free HealthCare system.

We are just a bunch of hippie socialists that don't care about anyone.

Quite honestly I do know how bad RA is. And she doesn't have RA, she has a "similar condition". I agree with you she should be on SSI, not on ATS taking away the legitimacy from those really are out there looking for jobs.

Well were you ever in nursing school, they are all debilitating. I was a nursing student, and an EMT in the ARMY, so I think I am more qualified to know about these things!
Oh and the fact is she is looking for work when she could get SSI and should be, that to me is proof enough that she is not any type of "Loser" as you would make her out to be.

I have never understood the need for people to kick others when they are down, especially when the person doing the kicking is in only a slightly better situation themselves.

I suppose it help's one to cope with the poor reality of their own existence by making themselves feel superior to someone or anyone they can.

Just remember that in this unpredictible ever changing world it may only be a matter of a short time before you too will find yourself down and out and in need. Im sure it will be a humbling experience for some.

A note on drug testing for welfare recipients.

Who is going to pay for it? Do you realize how much it would cost to test and process all those people every month? And not just the bill from the drug-testing clinics to the state, but also the thousands of extra man-hours it would take for welfare to process that paperwork?

And to what end? To find that someone we are giving foodstamps too, now we also have to pay for their drug rehab treatment on top of everything else. An ineffective treatment too, because you cannot force an addict to change their mind with counseling they did not enter voluntarily.

Or so you suggest that we let folks with substance abuse problems starve to death in the streets? Because that's just not going to happen. Instead you will see a dramatic increase crime rates.

And lastly, about the only thing you can test for effectively is marijuana. Everything else is out of the system in 24-72 hours.

I had an uncle who was a banker. He was knocking me pretty hard the past few years for the position I am in. He just lost a few investments and his house. He shot himself in the head. Couldn't take the fall from the high horse.

Is there not disability in your country? Because as far as I know, in my country, when someone has a debilitating illness we give them disability.

If your country doesn't have that, than shame on you.

And if it does, I don't see why this person wouldn't file for the claim while collecting food stamps for five years.

As a nurse you should also know that many conditions are psychosomatic. Anyone to pull the poor me card with intent on receiving pity, I tend to question.

There are many people 'disabled' that still work, and there are many that chose to file claims in my country, and no one has a problem with that because they deserve it, if they cannot function in the workplace.

I was born into this world poor and from the looks of things and despite my best efforts, I will probably leave it the same way.

You will never catch me jumping out of a 15 story window because my portfolio took a dump, but I'll bet there will be a lot of "high earners" who will be making that plunge once things worsen.

Right now the poor and middle class are the ones taking a beating while all of the narcissistic high earners feel that their education levels and current employment status will shield them from what is to come.

They are wrong.

This is exactly why we are in this situation today everybody attacking their fellow citizens when we should be uniting and attacking these idiotic policies, these idiotic laws and open trade agreements that are killing the US worker, but no lets just attack our fellow working class peers and call the liars and losers instead of uniting to take back our jobs and hold accountable those that are trying to tear down our infastructure!!!!
And it's going to reach all of you by the culmination of all these things. Beleive me not one of you will be shielded.

I am a humanitarian, I will always stand up for my fellow citizens when I need to. Call me a Chump I really don't care, I would stand up for you just the same if someone told you the same things when you found yourself in the same predicament.

Disability in the US is a joke. People who really need and deserve it don't get it, after ten years of court battles trying to get it. And people who fake an injury or condition, get it almost right away. Really, it has nothing to do with whether or not you are disabled, but whether or not you can afford a good lawyer when you start your claim.

You really have selective perception. Justagyrl and I both offered ways of this person to make money. Online, that suits her background, or at least that she is easily capable of.

elance.com

What we were met with were excuses in numbers to explain why the person couldn't do this. But yet, she can write a BOOK. SHE WROTE A BOOK ONLINE BUT SHE CANT GET A TYPING JOB DOING THE SAME THING!!!

Do you know what it means to misrepresent yourself? To be a fraud? To garner false support and sympathy?

I'm sorry to hear that your system is like that.

I have no idea why Health Care in your country is not an issue that makes you storm Capitol Hill.

Yes you are, sorry you can't see it.

The economy is in far worse shape than is acknowledged. We had a fast food joint get over 700 applications for one lousy opening here recently, and the vast majority were far over-qualified.

What part of THERE ARE NO JOBS don't you people get?

I've know people out of work for two years who apply constantly but aren't employable because the new criteria for employment is that you must be currently working or have been employed within the last six months. people are desperately trying evrything they can think of, but slip slowly into the abyss. I'm not that far from it myself: hours get cut, prices go up, and there is no help.

People can't "get off their lazy asses and get a job" because:

1. There aren't any.

2. If one opens, it's only for the employed or recently employed.

Those of you who are comfortably in a job, and look down your noses at the unemployed, blaming them for the results of corporate greed, I sincerely hope you are laid off yourself soon, and discover what the real economy is actually like.

Call me mean, but hopefully you won't be able to collect unemployment, you don't deserve it.

The "ideas" you offer are lame, pitiful really. The problem is not just that there isn't any work in businesses, but also there isn't any money for anyone to buy anything that isn't a necessity. "Write a book"...what a crock! In case you haven't noticed, people aren't buying many books these days: Borders just went bankrupt. Anyway writing a book isn't the same as writing a thread.

Never been to nursing school or been an EMT. If you read the previous post you would see that I said my dad suffers from RA. I am sure you missed it. I also said he worked 30 hours a week at Walmart sling boxes because he had to. Amaratsu said she could never work for Walmart because she "LOATH THEIR BUSINESS MODEL"!! Who is the snob there?? So I guess I think my dad is a "LOSER" because he finally applied for SSI at the age of 57?? Yeah, your right

What is astonishing to me is that everyone is willing to take what this woman says as absolute truth even though there are big holes in her story. No one has yet to address the fact that the woman spends an enormous amount of time on ATS and writing ebooks yet she can't get software (which she could use open office for free) to work from ELANCE. I have worked off of elance, so don't give me that BS. I call it like I see it, if that offends some of you oh well.
