The Gaddafi Enigma

So...How does Gaddafi propose to get out of this situation? You have rebels in the east and loyalists to the west in effect taking 40-50% of the countries main town's and/or cities. The rebels refuse to talk until he goes and gaddafi does his "negotiating" with bullets. The question is after this dies down (if the rebels are defeated/melt away into the civilian population) what does he do does he stay in power aware that any protest that is excessively dealt with may lead to another uprising. Does he give power to his son again another potential trigger for an uprising as this would possibly be seen as another "family run country"Or does he do the correct thing step down from power take his billions and live on an island somewhere set up a proper government and maybe even fake his death giving the people and the rest of the world some closure?

He'll end up like Saddam (trail and hanging) if he is lucky or Mussolini (mutilated and hanged) if he is unlucky. His sons wont survive to run the country either. Saddam's sons were killed.

Even if he escapes what's to stop an assassin from hunting him down?
