Magnitude 4.5 quake shakes up Wellington

Wellington residents have been jolted by a 4.5 magnitude earthquake this evening.

One resident told nzherald.co.nz the jolt shook their house, while another said it felt similar to one received in Wellington when the Christchurch earthquake struck.

The quake was at a depth of 40km and was centred 20km north-west of Wellington.

With all of the destructive Quakes happening in Christchurch, this one definitely has a few more people in our country on edge...

Ken Ring allegedly predicted the first two large Quakes in Christchurch and says another larger one is on the way in March around the 20th.

Below are the average annual statistics for new zealand earthquakes.

mag.4.0-4.9 333 1 per day
mag.5.0-5.9 26 2 per month
mag.6.0-6.9 2 2 per year
mag.7.0-7.9 1 1 per 3 years
mag.8.0 or over - 1 per century*
* Based on geological investigations and historical record of earthquakes

All he has to do is pick a day of the year, and his predictions will come correct.

You forgot to mention the earthquake he predicted to be another MAJOR quake on the 12th feb.

Don't write off Ken Ring just yet.....he uses planetary alignments just like this one for the 18 March 2011:

Let me also tell you, the best stock marker players use planetary alignments when buying and selling; they are also used for low and high tides.

Now just because Ken Ring may have predicted POTENTIALS; our tsunami/cyclone radar systems are incorrect alot of the time - and they have scientific data!!! I can't remember how many tsunami warnings we have but none came of any fruitation - yet.

Ken Ring did NOT predict a major quake on feb 12th at all....like John whats his name of TV3, thats a lie.

Geological readings kinda failed to warn the people of CHCH......they KNEW the day before and said NOTHING. Some lives could had been spared if they said something.

This thing about Ken Ring is getting rediculous.
I have read his book and tested his weather and earthquake predictions out for a couple of months back n 2006, its nothing but pure chance. I threw the book away
