The fact that there are plently of scholarships available to white men and everyone else? The fact that I believe white male only scholarships are for the underachieving white males who could not qualify for the regular scholarships?

In my opinion, I don't see some white male who is valedictorian in HS going to MIT on a full academic scholarship going out of his way to apply for a measly $500, do you? From the other white guys on this thread, they seem to think this scholarship is some kind of savior scholarship for average white American joes. ha ha

Apparently there are millions of minorities taking advantage of all this free unfair reverse racism minority money floating around. I would like to actually see someone on here present some facts about the demographics of all grant and scholarship recepients in the US by race and gender. It would be pretty interesting if any of you could PROVE this reverse racism in terms of US dollars. Until i see this so called PROOF of reverse racism I won't post on this thread again. It's simply propaganda that I don't have time for.

Don't worry about it, I got it under control I realize trying to reason with this guy is like trying to reason with a brick wall, or even worse, a 3 year old child.

For whatever reason I wasted the time (say wasted because he is either going to ignore it or try to explain it away) and collected the most blaring instances of his discriminatory posting. There was even more than I thought!

Even though people make it sound like getting a scholarship is easy and everyone can get one... i never understood that part. You still have to compete against your peers.

I don't disagree that there are many scholarships for minorities, I find it very hard to believe that this guy had no aid. He is an Iraq war vet; last I heard, vets get money for school. There are also scholarships for students with good grades; if he did not have access to those, it's because he didn't work hard enough.

On the surface this doesn't seem like a terrible idea, but I am very suspicious about where the group's donated funds will come from.

Total financial aid for whites was $7,259, compared with the 42 percent higher figure of $10,325 for blacks.

You might logically say that whites have higher incomes than blacks, so if aid is need-based, more should go to blacks. I agree. However, if one confines the analysis to only low income students (in the bottom one-fourth of the income distribution), we see the average black student still receives almost $2,000 (21-22 percent) more aid than the average white. Controlling for income, blacks are significantly favored relative to whites --perhaps reverse racism, if you will.

But do you know what? Maybe I am an "inferior white male"? Maybe I know what it's like to not have a Christmas or worse yet a "happy meal Christmas". Number 1. If college wasnt so doggone expensive we wouldnt need scholarships. By it becoming increasingly expensive it is disenfranchising low income people. These people generally are minorities. In itself, this is a form of racism. Ensuring that well to do "whites" dominate higher education.

Number 2. The US is still about 68 % "white" or persons from European descent. So called Afro-americans are only 12% !!! And hispanics 14% of the population. Thats a grand total of 26% !! Thats nothing. And if you want to throw in asians you got your 30 % (Dang people what did you guys do to the Native Americans... :puz. So think about it, how many of these minorities get to go to college or universities, once you take in consideration their income, their grades, the high school they attended (yes that has a major influence too!), etc.

So I think people are looking at this the wrong way.
Sure, you want people to be treated equally in your country.
But the U.S. has ALWAYS favored and enriched the white MAJORITY.
Scholarships are there to help MINORITIES, whether its due to ethnicity, a special talent, or income.
In other words, there are many scholarships that "white" persons can apply for:
Whats your talent? Are you good in sports? Do you play a rare musical instrument? Are you highly intelligent?
Do you come from an area in the US that is very poor, etc.

So, as a white person, how desperate are you to have to get a College scholarship? You want to stop more minorities from getting their chance simply because you have majority right? Your competition is not against other minorities, its against other white people.

I think this thread got quite derailed but nobody is harboring any hatred for these minorities or even their scholarship programs. My whole reason for posting in this thread was because I thought it was a good political statement to be made by the people offering this scholarship. Yes there is racism and discrimination in this country. But I can't think of any situation where actual policy or laws are setup in this way. There isn't any school that has a "whites only" sign outside of it. The past is the past, and it's up to the current generation to succeed, not blame people from history for keeping them down.

I can't think of a single situation, beside being born homeless or with a mental disorder, that would keep someone from succeeding if they REALLY tried hard. I'm not blaming minorities or anything for me not going to college, I blame myself. I know if I would have worked harder I could have gone, but I didn't.

The same thing goes for young people of any race. Up until college, school is free for the most part, and low income families get help from the school or other programs for things like school supplies if they can't afford them. Aside from that, it is up to the student to show up every day, pay attention in class, do their homework, and ask for help if they don't understand something. If they fail to do those things, it is THEIR fault they don't succeed, not the fault of anybody holding them down.

I don't see how being a minority would make it any more difficult for someone to do the things I just said. Although children with English as a second language would be an exception, most schools have an ESL program, and things like Math are a universal language.

I personally don't think there NEEDS to be a white only scholarship program at all. Just like I don't see why there NEEDS to be a minority only scholarship program. I am simply supporting the OP because it's a political statement that illustrates how these kind of things are not conducive to a fair, equal treatment of people. My ultimate wish is that all scholarships are awarded based on economic need, and scholastic achievement. If that was the case, there would be no excuse for anybody regardless of race.
