With animals, somewhere around 80 percent of conditions(minus accidents and such) are caused by a lower than standard dietary balance(or to say food based in conclusion), which includes fillers-such as corn- and dyes. I find that it it is close to that in humans as well, either it be through aspartame as an example and other ingredients that should not be fed to us daily.
As others have mentioned in the thread that the engineering does help some crops and more, so it depends on if the changing of the food has long term effects to be harmful
