I never understood why people liked dogs so much.
IMO they're smelly, hairy, loud and extremely disgusting creatures.

Funny....they probably felt the same about you.

Oh...and yes it takes a big man to shoot a dog.

You sound like a great person, your mother must be proud

Agreed.
I think he Was picked on as a child Too.(probably by his Mother)
So sad that dogs had to be stuck with him.
Anyhow, lets forget about him and his crap and enjoy the Nice Posts.

Except for when I was in the military, I don't remember a time in life when I didn't have a dog. They truely are the definition of unconditional love, and frankly I like my dog better than most people.

Real nice
You come to a nice thread like this and try and ruin it. It's a shame one of your dogs didn't learn to use a gun. By the way, have you ever seen a turtle shot with a .308? You should see it sometime.

Meathed is right, I'm done responding to this poster. On with the show!!

IMO they're smelly, hairy, loud and extremely disgusting creatures. I've had several dogs and I have never been able to bond with them the way you guys do
So I just shot them or let them go, but I love turtles and I think turtles are AWESOME.

I think the same thing could be said of most humans, hairy, loud, disgusting, and much more.

I like mine heaps more than many humans too.

There was a news story In Oz about an Australian Officer( A bomb sniffer Dog) that lost his life protecting his fellow soliders.
The Officer (dog) was out on point duty, walked onto a bridge and paused, Everyone that was following stopped before the bridge and then the IED exploded killing the Officer( Dog).
The human soliders survived.
Those soliders trusted their Canine leader. And without the dog the soliders would have been killed.
Good Dog.

Ps. I like the fact that some Dogs in the Aussie Army out rank their Handlers.
Is it the same In the US military?

The Spirit of
A German Shepherd Dog

I was standing on a hillside.
In a field of blowing wheat
And the spirit of a German Shepherd Dog
Was lying at my feet.
He looked at me with kind dark eyes
An ancient wisdom shining through
And in the essence of his being
I saw love there too.
His mind did lock upon my heart
As I stood there on that day
And he told me of this story
About a place so far away.
I stood upon that hillside
In a field of blowing wheat
And in a twinkling of a second
His spirit left my feet.
His tale did put my heart at ease
My fears did fade away
About what lay ahead of me
On another distant day.
“I live among God’s creatures now
In the heavens of your mind
So do not grieve for me, my friend
As I am with my kind.
My collar is a rainbow’s hue
My leash a shooting star
My boundaries are the Milky Way
Where I sparkle from afar.
There are no pens or kennels here
For I am not confined
But free to roam God’s heavens
Among my Shepherd kind.
I nap the day on a snowy cloud
Gentle breezes rocking me
And dream the dreams of earthlings
And how it used to be.
The trees are full of liver treats
And tennis balls abound
And Milkbones line the walkways
Just waiting to be found.
There even is a ring set up
The grass all lush and green
And everyone who gaits around
Becomes the Best of Breed.
For we’re all winners in this place
We have no faults, you see
And God passes out those ribbons
To each one, even me.
I drink from waters laced with gold
My world a beauty to behold
And wise old dogs do form my pride
To amble at my very side.
At night I sleep in an angel’s arms
Her wings protecting me
And moonbeams dance about us
As stardust falls on thee.
So when your life on earth is spent
And you stand at Heaven’s gate
Have no fear of loneliness
For here, you know I wait.

There's a better one somewhere, I'll try and dig it up, it always makes the mrs cry when she reads it.

I'm sorry for my comment, it was unnecessary and so was my thread yesterday.

@DisturbedToo:

Yes, I've seen plenty of turtles being shot, tortured. thrown around and other horrible stuff. And it makes me feel the same way you probably feel about that type of stuff happing to dogs. I just don't see why it's okay for people to harm and kill one kind of animal, but if it's a dogs it's a serious crime. Doesn't make sense to me.

That's my whole point. I've never shot or seen a turtle shot with a .308.....Now back to the dogs!!!!!

Thanks,
Great feel good story.
I have had labradors all my life.
The male Lab I have at the moment was the eye's and ears for the our female Lab when she went blind then deaf when she was 5yrs. My two dogs never failed to amaze me how they would communicate, the things he would do fo her, how much she trusted him.
The female was absolutely amazing how she handled this world without sight or hearing.
We were told repeatedly by vets to put the female down when she first started losing her sight, Im glad we didn't listen to the vets, we had 6 extra good years with her.

Thanks again for link.

Thanks, mate. I can't take the credit for it, just a poem posted on a GSD site, but its a good example of how a dog can make a difference to your life.
