Close range eyewitness UFO sightings taken from the two and a half hour period over the West, North and East of Levelland, Texas, November 1957 - some of the reports describe a glowing 200 foot ellipsoid object landing (and taking off again) and electromagnetic interference effects were also experienced at the time.

At 10:30 p.m. came the report from truck driver Pedro Saucedo, who described seeing a blue torpedo-shaped object with yellow flame and white smoke coming out of its rear. He estimated it was 200 feet (60 meters) long and 6 feet (2 meters) wide. His truck lights and engine failed while the UFO was in view; after it disappeared, his lights worked perfectly, and he was able to re-start the engine.

At Pettit, Texas, 10 miles (16 km) to the northwest, two grain combines failed as a UFO flew past: "shortly before midnight, Jim Wheeler reported seeing a large 200 feet (60 meters) elliptical object on the road; as he drove toward it, his car lights and engine failed. The UFO rose and flew off, and when it blinked off, his lights came back on and he was able to re-start his engine."

At the same time, Jose Alvarez's car lights and engine died when he saw a glowing, 200 feet (60 meters) UFO nearby. After the object flew away, his lights came back on and he was able to re-start his engine.

At about 12:05am, college student Newell Wright's car lights and engine failed. He got out to fix them, looked up and saw a glowing, bluish-green, flat-bottomed, oval object on the highway. The object was in sight for four or five minutes. During that time, Wright tried to start his engine, and while the starter made contact, the motor was unaffected. The object disappeared, straight up, and immediately the car lights came back on, the engine started, and then operated perfectly...

By 01:30am, Hockley County Sheriff Weir Clem had heard so many reports that he decided to see for himself. He drove out with a deputy sheriff, and saw a large oval red light, though he did not experience electrical system problems. Years later he said:"The object was shaped like a huge football and had bright white lights. The blinding lights flashed on, it went right over the car and was gone. No living human being could believe how fast it traveled. The whole thing was as bright as day; it lit up the whole area."

Thanks for the super thread Karl. I will need to come back and view the cases here which are new to me -

To add to the fun, the below is my personal close range experience. This craft was approx 50 ft above me. Previously posted on ATS.

Circa 1998-99, Spring I believe. Location was Duncans Mills CA. In Sonoma County, D.Mills is approx 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Also on the Russian River which meets the sea at Jenner.

Pretty isolated place and my house was down a road which fronted on the River. My little house had an open air deck and this is where I was when this happened. The house sits in a canyon of sorts with high hills on each side.

It was approx 9:30 pm and I was out on my deck, no doubt smoking -not that this matters. It was a partly cloudy night with a big old moon in the sky right above the deck. It was one of those nights where the moon plays hide and seek with the clouds, so when it would come out it was quite bright and great to look. So, anyhow I'm looking up at the moon through the clouds and the clouds pull back revealing the moon and bam there is a craft in the sky right above my head close enough so I could make out 3 distinct concave circular shapes on the bottom of the craft. It looked like the classic flying saucers with 3 pro-pulsion(sp?) rocket ports.

In a second it made a big whoosing sound and shot out to the SE and slipped over the hill. Fasting moving anything I ever seen, I mean it was instant. It was like a cartoon ufo zipping away over the hill. I called my buddy and said I think I just saw a UFO. A crazy stunning event in my life.

Nexotop, thanks for sharing your account mate -very interesting reading and California certainly has had it's fair share of freaky UFO reports over the years (it's also a very nice place to visit ) -it looks like there was quite a flap going on over Northern CA in August, 1960 and some of the eye-witnesses there also reported disc shape objects - the incidents caused a great deal of press coverage at the time so it's a shame not many folk are even aware of them today.

An intensive concentration of UFO sightings occurred over a six day period in northern California. Dozens of witnesses, including at least 14 police officers, reported typical disc, elliptical and cigar-shaped UFOs.
The state police sighting of a highly maneuverable ellipse, which shone red beams of light toward the ground the night of August 13, was reported on the front page of state newspapers and on the newswires.

Also, when it comes to unknown objects 'zipping off' at high rates of speed and performing strange flight characteristics, some of the police testimony (and close range observations) from officers involved in the Ohio sightings from 1973 also sound pretty bizarre.

"The officer said it was oblong and covered with lights. It appeared stationary in the sky about tree top level for several minutes until he tried to shine his cruiser spot light on it," Sullivan said. "It then zoomed toward him and then shot straight up in the air... after he turned out his light... and disappeared." Sullivan said the UFO sightings lasted from a fleeting moment to 12 minutes. "They would be behind the trees and come up and fly away... as if you startled it or something," he said. "No balloon, helicopter or kite can move that fast or has that many lights attached or can go so quickly in a straight-up direction."

Cheers.

Wigit, lets hope you have that camera next time and give us a peek at the footage -would very much like to see that one - seems Falkirk is a bit of a hotspot and there's a good documentary here if you've not seen it already, the local paper also published some interesting close range UFO testimony below from two separately located witnesses in Bonnybridge.

Local residents contacted The Falkirk Herald to provide eye-witness accounts of a mysterious flying object last Thursday night. It is the latest unexplained sighting in the village, which has become known as Scotland's 'UFO capital.'

Colin Doyle,(28), from Hallglen, said: "My colleague and I were just coming back from a job in Bonnybridge about half past 9 and we saw this object with flashing lights in the sky.

"By the shape of it there was no way it was a plane. It looked oval shaped with flashing lights all around it, so we got out the van to have a look. "After hovering for a while, it then just shot up into the sky and the speed it was going was phenomenal."

Gary Harkins (28), from Bonnybridge, said: "I was out walking my dog along the canal at Bonnybridge around about half 9 and saw this object in the sky and there was no way it was an aircraft.

"It was kind of saucer-shaped and was hovering above the ground around the height of high-rise flats and had flashing lights."The object continued to hover about for a few minutes and then just shot away at unbelievable speed.

Nice video that. I met some of those people once or twice, straight up, honest folk with nothing to gain from telling their stories, and Malcolm Robinson & Co have done a great job keeping Scottish ufos in the press over the years. That's why Scottish ufology is so famous. It's not about little dots filmed in a night sky, it's stuff hovering at ground or roof height, following people in their cars and lots more.

Bill Buchanan, the local councillor used to host an occasional skywatch in Bonnybridge and I'm sure there were plans for a huge visitor centre and watchtower there because they have so many people from all over the world visiting. One night I went to Bonnybridge, to see a UFO, and I saw something coming toward us that caused me to absolutely freak out, and I've never done that again, lol. In fact it took me a long time before I'd go anywhere at night in the car again.

The Falkirk triangle actually needs to be re-assessed and include the whole of Fife, Dundee and Perth. Maybe call it the Central Scotland triangle, or the South of the Highlands UFO Zone? haha

Thanks, Karl -

Indeed one of the most beautiful spots in the world. I had more sightings in the 6 years I lived in Sonoma County, CA., then any other place I've called home. Re: the experience I shared, I've always wondered if because of the proximity of the river and the ocean if perhaps it might have come up from there. Also, seems like most of the accounts I read talk about no sound at all, but there was absolutely a sound here. I appreciate the Dunsmuir description of a 'rushing of wind' as this is about right for my experience.

I think there was a little more reverence and innocence back then. I'm not so big on a normalization type plan by gov't or military in terms of watering down sitings with mass media images, who knows.

But I know what I saw - I've thought of going back to the spot one day/night - might have to one day -

Now back to viewing some more of your links.

Appreciate all the info!!

Cheers,
Nexo
