I was taking a break from writing a paper when I found this. I have following this story since he iceman was first discovered.

Brown-eyed, bearded, furrow faced, and tired: this is how Ötzi the Iceman might have looked, according to the latest reconstruction based on 20 years of research and investigations.

Realized by two Dutch experts, Alfons and Adrie Kennis, the model was produced with the latest in forensic mapping technology that uses three-dimensional images of the mummy's skull as well as infrared and tomographic images.

The new reconstruction shows a prematurely old man, with deep-set eyes, sunken cheeks, a furrowed face and ungroomed beard and hair.

Not the handesomest chap in the room... Makes me wonder what the ladies looked like!!!

I think these guys did a good job reconstructing his basic appearance, but claiming they know that he had dark brown eyes, instead of blue, is a bit of a stretch.

Any new developments about Otzi are cool.

I posted a thread on Otzi a while back...Otzi.

I have the Otzi lines tattooed on my back... I've always thought he was fascinating. I think they used mDNA analysis to determine his eye color. I believe this is probably the closest we'll get to knowing what he truly looked like. However, I'm not sure why they assume his hair was all ratty. He might have had a religious belief where his facial hair was in a certain style or something. Probably not, but it may not have been ungroomed.

Gosh he looks a bit worse for wear, there is another reconstruction of his face on the same site that has him looking a bit less haggard but a touch more startled!

It is very creepy that they aged him so terribly for such a young man; his corpse looks very smooth and not as nearly aged as the ancient depiction they give him.

I think that Ahmadinejad looks more like the "old guy" than the mummy does!

It is really creepy also that they did not give him shoulders; he looks like he is dismembered from his body and might roll off the table if you place him there!

This is a more realistic image of the man and his possessions:
