Doesn't matter what the reason for the uprisings that are occuring right now, the fact is that is happening NOW! These people are incredibly couragous and I applaud their efforts and my heart goes out to them.

Lets take up a collection and send them all pizza, like Egypt did for the WI protestors!

Thanks for the positive thread. NO TROLLS ALLOWED!

do not think of Muslims as my brothers and sisters. They have no respect for individual freedom. What do they do to people who want to convert to a different religion? It is an automatic death penalty. What do they do to their daughters and wives who are raped? They do an "Honor" killing. These people are not my brothers and sisters.

How do you know that? From hearing it on a biased western based tv news broadcast? I can only judge a Muslim person from the Muslim people I interact with here in Canada and to tell you the truth; each and ever one of them are very respectful and peace loving. They are no different than anybody else.

That's a silly premise.

Even if the Arabs rid themselves of dominating governments - Islam still will keep them under a ruthless, intolerant religious form of submission.

Out of the flame, into the burner. That's what I call progress.

The funny thing is these country's have been perishing for decades...why suddenly protest now when they should of done it long ago?

Why do so many women stay with abusive husbands for so long? Many of them very honestly don't know they have a choice. The people of the middle east have discovered that not only do they have options, but that those options can yield good results.

Well it's all because 'they' want them to do this. It's all for the great middle-eastern project they have.

Actually, "they" are scared poopless by all this. The US backs Bahrain's government. The Us backed the Egyptian regime. And these new measures against Libya that the US is undertaking will not affect Gaddhafi; they are being put in place to punish the Libyans for overthrowing a US puppet.

The previous status quo existed because of "them." The international powers and movers are comfortable with despotic regimes. Shaking that up sends them into a confused daze.

Remember what Gaddafi's son was saying? Well he was telling the truth and he is doing the right decision of not leaving the county to the plot of others.

His loss.

They plan to bring country's ruled solely by Islam rule like how they were ruled like only a century ago.

History fail. Libya, as a protectorate of the Ottoman empire, operated under a rather convoluted system of secular civic law - or at least, the heavily populated areas did. Much of the rest of the territory was ruled by Berber tribal laws and tradition, which don't often line up with Islamic Charia.

Also, chronology fail; a hundred years ago, Libya was an Italian colony.

And lastly, if the people of Libya want to live under some sort of Islamic law, then good for them. Seriously, it's no weirder or less functional than the Saxon commonlaw that we rule ourselves by.

There are plenty crimes committed in the name of Sharia Law in Arab nations but as a Westerner we too have plenty of our own committing shocking crimes of domestic abuse, child abuse, porn, theft, etc etc. No nation is without their problems.

I believe that it is not impossible to overcome our fears of each other and work together, dispite our religious and cultural differences, and find some middle ground. We worked well together at one time long in the past and we can do it again.

Open trade between nations (without limitations by tyrants that run the UN), and football is a good start.

OK this is serious you guys. Let's not make the mistake of allowing our hawks in government to BS us into going over there and killing a buncha people just because they say we should. Let's let those guys do their own laundry all by themselves. They know how. They don't need more Americans messing and interfering and they sure as hell don't need outfits like Blackwater and Halliburton Phucking with them either.

Dont some people sit down and just think, THINK that Sharia Laws are still going on til this day because of their government/leaders? and the sheeples that follow? and not by EVERYONE who living in these countries?... How do you know these protesters arent fighting for the right to stop those law's?Just like US in the USA and all over the world are fighting Law's that control our mind and body and strip us from our freedoms/Human rights. Hell, They could be fighting for everything that Westerns and all these other ignorant bastards are being lead to believe in about Islam.

I'm sure those who speak about Islam/Muslim people like they are the ONLY group in history and in the world that has done some unmoral things has never met one and if they did, never gave the chance to see how they are and/or just met the wrong apples, There's a few all over from all types of nations and religious groups, etc.are bad apples and some are just realllllly rotten nasty apples.

I've been around all types of people esp. Muslims (Arabs,Hispanics,Blacks, etc) and like everyone else with a mind, Never heard any negative # that half of you people are saying (hating our freedom, blah, blah and more blah) so enough with the ignorance. It gets tiring... and like those same Sharia law's that a few sheeples choose to follow are as ignorant as a person who believes everyone follows that system, What makes you all different? Nothing at all but share the same common thing...... being an ignorant close minded sheeple who choose to follow a "law" or anything else that they think its right when its just wrong.

But to the topic ....... Im Glad they are doing what they are doing, its about time that a whole country go against the evils that governs each countries. They making a stand, They showing the world that people still could fight the power that be,They are showing the world that those in Power are just like any regular person that could be bought down and stopped once for all. They showing the world we dont have to follow the same laws and ideologies of those in power. They sure are our Brothers and Sisters and soon every men and women (those who choose not to be a sheeple) will just Unite as ONE all over the world making us all Humans, Therefore making all of us Brothers & Sisters and will fight for the cause that is right for ALL MEN,WOMEN AND CHILDRENS that we all should deserves.

I think you have called it well there Misoir. I also believe the desired outcome for these nations is a modern democracy like Turkey. This has to be far better than what exists now. We should be encouraging this change all the way and stop fearing of an Islamist revolution. From what I see this is being driven by the young who dont want to replace one form of autocracy with another.

Good luck to them all.

My thoughts are with all those caught up in the protests. Let us hope that whatever form of government replaces the disposed leaders will be a change for good and not, as we see so often, a carbon-copy replacement.

I promised myself when writing this I wouldn't descend into the religious debate aside from saying these people are members of the human race, regardless of what they believe they are our brothers and sisters and deserve respect for fighting for freedom.

It would have been nice to believe, in this day and age, that we could all see each other as brothers and sisters. I personally see human suffering and feel compassion for the human race, regardless of someone's religious beliefs, culture and so on. Sadly, the people that don't see it like this perpetuate the problems.

The people who are out there in the streets fighting for their rights are courageous and deserve our support.
Down with the dictators!

Ever been really hungry, or thirsty?

Back years ago I had done a job that required me to spend some time on the HMX-1 helicopters and with the pilots that fly them. Man, could those guys fly a helicopter. One told me a story about Vietnam and a couple of helicopter pilots who had won the bronze star for flying into a hot LZ while enemy fire was coming down all around them. They got their award because of the bravery it took. In reality they had been flying missions for over 24 hours and they had lost the ability to care anymore and hence, no fear. If we did things by honorable motivations it would be a different world.

Given half a chance and too many conveniences we are anything but honorable. I wonder how Americans will display their honor when hunger comes to us (and it will)? Will there be privileged people talking about how brave we were to throw down our lives like that? Honestly, truth told, I think where our time comes it will be far uglier.

The problem with some americans are that they are far too well fed to bother or care, and even if they lived as slaves, they lead comfortable slave lives being that they are well paid, they have their BMWs, their ipads, and toys.

Being indolent, they will only cry out if their TV programmes get delayed, or having to pay a dollar more for taxes, etc, petty issues that a poor man cannot comprehend.

But when the poor or activists whom are more socially conscious decides to make a stand, these indolent americans will scream out that it is 'orchestrated', 'pulled strings by others', etc, etc, to deluded themselves and others confused so that no others will join in making stands against oppression, for it would mean their comfortable or petty lives get turn upside down, even though it will not be as upsetting as that compared to those whom are far more deprived.

The madness of Gaddafi, whom had blamed everyone under the sun for the revolutions except for himself, is not alone. Many are just as mad and deluded as Gaddafi is. Greed and power lusts has a way of blinding one's mind and vision to the real sufferings of our brothers and sisters, of whatever differences, whom can take it no more.

I am sure this is not applicable to all Americans.
There are dirt poor people with no BMW and ipad and toys, you know. Just saying ...

Hm, not sure, but I think this is a further generalization of the people, which are rarely true and usually false statements by default, and also phrased quite absolutely and I don't think there is any absolute truth to be gained in this case.

Right, like all dictators, Gaddafi can't handle it when his people do not worship him for life anymore and want what the "evil West" has, namely democracy. United we stand and divided we fall

Well, the new "government" (the military) in Egypt just outlawed protests and demonstrations.

So...how'd that revolution work out for them?

Does that mean we should not still support the people? I fail to see your point.

The People still aren't in charge of Egypt.

They were never intended to be. The entire ME "uprising" is a farce, I'm surprised you don't see this....

None of these countries citizens will be better off in any way when TPTB's plans for them are realized.

The plan is to destabilize the region, stop buying oil from the ME...and start drilling in America.

If you think gasoline is expensive now, wait until it's "American made"
