Pretty routine stuff -- but only three more shuttle missions to observe this kind of video, ever again.

Jim Obergs says... Apollo astronauts saw Moon Pigeons
That would make an AWESOME headline for the Enquirer

"Piece of ice or other debris, maybe a washer, etc"
"Looks like it came right off the door latch"
"...and says the doors are now opening, and THEN THEY OPEN. He said all that after the object appeared, indicating no doors where open BEFORE the object appeared. "
"Looks like a washer floating out of the payload bay close to the camera to me."
:Can't be a bird, too fast. Can't be a satellite, too low (it fades under the clouds). Can't be a plane or jet (Military is suppost to be shut down on shuttle schedules?)."
"Well, we did see a plane nearby about 15-20 sec. after launch. Could that one be tha NASA plane?"

When he was an active 'rocket scientist', Oberg had a 22-year career as a space engineer in Houston, where he specialized in NASA space shuttle operations for orbital rendezvous, as a contractor employee. He was a 'NASA Trainee' at Northwestern University in 1966-9, and worked at the Johnson Space Center in Houston 1975-1997.
