My house is haunted ?

first off, go me for finally getting 20 posts !

Anyways, me and 3 of my friends have been living in a duplex together for the past three months, and we've noticed a few weird things going on. One of my roommates thinks we're paranoid but the rest of us think we have a spirit of some sort 'living' with us. As I said we live in a duplex, and I'm really curious as to if the neighbors have noticed anything, but the neighbors happen to be 10 people from Asia, and as far as i know they don't speak a lick of English, or at least they have no interest in returning our "hello's". No idea how they manage to fit everyone in there, but whatever works I suppose (Its exactly like ours, 4 bed 2 bath). I'll list the experiences we've had and try to list approximately when they happened. I'll only list the things I was actually there for.

1- happened late October, before I had moved in (one of my roommates has been living here since last spring, I moved in November, when one guy was kicked out for not paying bills, the other 2 moved in in December, because the old roommates where having a 2nd kid and needed more space). We were in the backyard having a smoke inside the garage as to avoid snow (oh the joys of Saskatchewan in fall/winter...). It was snowing lightly, but there was very little wind. We were all standing in the middle of the shed and one of the doors swung open by itself. As far as we could tell the wind was not blowing hard enough to open the door, it is one of those old-school, small metal sheds.
2- Early November, about a week or two after we had moved in. Once it started getting colder out we decided we would just smoke at the back entrance instead of actually going outside and freezing. There would often be half-finished cigarette butts sitting on the stove by the entrance, which is just outside of the kitchen. I was going through the freezer and found an empty pack of cigarettes in the corner of the freezer, None of my roommates knew why it was in there. A few days later i was looking in the freezer again and i found a half-finished smoke sitting beside our ice-cube tray. Again, no one had any idea why it was there.
3- Early December. The 3 of us that weren't at work were sitting downstairs watching some TV. We were all noticing that it was cold inside. Eventually we went to the thermostat to see what was up. Both the knobs on the thermostat were put all the way down. I KNOW none of my roommates would turn the furnace off in the middle of December. It gets COLD out over here...
4- A little while after the new year, i cant really remember when... Anyways, all 4 us were home this time. We were all sitting downstairs again, watching TV (god our lives are boring... lol). Out of no where we heard a little bump and some dishes tinking together from the kitchen upstairs. We were all downstairs, and we didn't have any company over. We went upstairs to see what was up and, i know this is cliche, but the dishes were stacked up on the stove kind of like an upside down Y, with a frying pan joining the 2 legs. When i grabbed the frying pan to move it all the plates fell from on top of it.
5- Just a few weeks ago, early February I guess. I was upstairs in the kitchen making some toast. I heard a noise that sounded like it came from just at the bottom of the stair case to the level my room is on. It's hard to say what it was, but the best way I can describe it is a kind of cross between a poster falling off a wall, and a wer dog shaking itself dry, if that makes any sence at all. Like, a poster falling off of a wall but also shaky-sounding. Really weird. Anyways, I was confused, and I'll admit i stood there for probably about 5 minutes before I moved just thinking "what the f*ck was that...?". I went downstairs after finished my toast to see if anything had fallen off my walls or something (I like to keep my walls decorated with posters and blankets), but nothing was out of place and nothing had fallen. I even checked the other bedroom on the floor of the house but again, nothing out of place.

There were a few more incidents where my roommates have heard bumps or say things have fallen off of tables, etc. but seeing as I wasn't there I can't say if it's true or not. So what do you think ATS, is my house haunted, or are we just paranoid ? I know most of these things could be explained, but I can't see why anyone would turn off the furnace or put an half- cigarette in the freezer ? And if it is haunted, what do we do about it ? If it is an entity or some kind, it doesn't seem angry or hostile, more so like it's just kinda messing with us. I often get the feeling I'm being watched while im sitting alone in my room (like now, actually... trippy :puz
, but it's never something that worries me, or that I feel I need to get away from. I had my heart set on trying to communicate with it using my blackberry as a recorder, but when I actually went to do it I got bad vibes and decided against it. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable on this subject than me can tell me what exactly this might be ?
Thanks for your time all,

Thanks for the advise. I'm guessing a time lapse camera is a camera set up to take pictures at set intervals ?

Right under you name is , professional stoner . Hmmm .... Are your buddies professional stoners also ? Just wonderin'. I'm not much of a believer , but i'm also not a total disbeliever either . Maybe do an experiment . Nobody gets stoned for a month and see if anything happens .

I dont have alot of advice to offer, but i have lived in a Duplex my entire life. I hear things all the time i cannot explain.Sometimes is safer to assume that all the bumps, scratches and clanks are coming from your neighbors.

Yeah, thats what I try to do, that's why I didn't mention any of the times where it's just a bump or something like that, which happens just about every other day or so.

Based on so many things seen and reported where you live, it does sound like a haunting...

I wonder if you could go to some courthouse or city hall and try and find out any history about the place, possible deaths at the residence in the past?

I would also agree not to try and record ghost voices, because that can lead to a big increase in activity sometimes, and that might make living there less desireable.. Not saying it would happen, but it has been reported to cause more activity in other cases.

Finding out the history of that rental from the landlords might be a good way to find if any person has died at that residence before..

Cheers, and good luck

Hmm, hadn't really thought of that as being a possible cause. I suppose that could be a factor, but I've been doing that for years. this is something I've only noticed after moving here. I'm 19 and this is my third attempt at living on my own, but I've never had experiences like this before :/

ETA: definitely just realized having that on there is a T+C violation after trying to make a thread about it... off to go change that I guess

Well, I could be wrong. But it seems that what started as a roomie "borrowing" your smokes turned into a "haunting". It sounds like the ghost explaination was used to explain the cig problem. And the joke kept growing. Have a good laugh, and tell them to fess up.

Well they weren't my cigarettes. 3/4 of us smoke and we all have different brands. The smoke pack was a John player standard, and the half-smoke was a Canadian classic. We all keep our smokes on us, except for the ones we butt out halfway thru, we just leave those on a shelf in the entrance to the kitchen by the back door. I'm not saying it's definitely not a prank, but I think they'd be able to come up with something better than putting a smoke pack in the freezer to make me think its a ghost haha

Do you have any idea how long the duplex has been there or what was there before the duplex? I does sound like you have something paranormal going on... maybe even a poltergeist. How young is the youngest person living there? Poltergeist activity often centers around teens. The thing with the dishes is awesome, btw, lol.

Usually the best way to figure out what you have going on is to start with the history of the place and then go from there. If you know of any older residents in the area, asking them what used to be there would be a good place to start. Then, the second step I would take would be to see if anybody died there. Every played with Ouija boards in the place? It could be that your neighbors are playing with an Ouija board and bringing stuff in. I don't bad mouth people who use Ouija boards, even though I don't use them myself, but I do know from very trustworthy sources that paranormal activity can start in homes after using a Ouija board.

I'll try to think of other ideas for you. The camera is an EXCELLENT idea! I definitely encourage you to set up a camera. If you don't feel comfortable trying to get EVP's, definitely don't do it. Always go with your gut when it comes to such things!

I'm the youngest one living in our half of the duplex, I'm just 19. As for the history of the place, it's probably just been a duplex since it was built. My city was only built 100 some years ago so I'd be surprised if anything was here before maybe 95 years ago So it should be fairly simple to look into And no, we haven't played with Ouija boards in the house. I've played with them before without anything "freaky" happening, but I know people who have so I generally don't let people bring them in my house, and I know at least 2 of my roomies agree with that.

The only thing that eve seems like a haunting is the randomly stacked dishes on the stove. And that takes a pretty strong presence to do such a thing. If this scares any of you it is not a good idea to experiment with it, talking to it gives it strength and the plate stacking can become much worse. My advice ignore it.

Its definitely good to see more strange things happening in Saskatchewan. Records aren't kept up very well even though our history is so young. Things have been picking up in my house and there is just no where to go for proper records of this area. There is definitely nothing creeper though than driving down a flat sask road at night and seeing a car pop out of no where, follow you then ditch when there's no where to go.

it could be a haunting....or it could some one pulling some crap on you guys i dont know.i myself had some unexplained experiences.when i was living in my parents garage.i used to have strange feelings and things were taken from there when i had the place securely locked up for example, after i would leave i came back to find my TV remote gone!i left it in a very obvious spot when i locked up to leave but some how it went missing with no evidence of a break in.the locks are very hard to pick to!it's as if someone was there hiding out in the garage waiting for me to leave so they can do stuff to screw with my head like move stuff or unplug stuff and other things like that.the strange thing is i know i was the only one who had a key!it was a garage converted into a room so the front car access door was disabled and locked.i maid sure it was secure could have been a poltergeist or a clever S.O.B. who had it out for me for some jack ass reason
