I guarantee you that if no one were killed or injured in result of this quake, religious people would be shouting *praise be to god, it's been a miracle* but because of all the confirmed deaths and total destruction, God won't even be muttered...

Sorry for going off-topic, i just find it funny how God is no where to be seen when death and destruction is present.

Anywho, best of luck to the ones still trapped. Hang on and you'll be rescued.=

Even in Christchurch, my family and I feel helpless too. We want to be there helping the emergency crews, trying to get to survivors, but we cant.

6.5hrs after the quake, and I havent eaten a thing and I feel sick.

I feel sick for you, for all of you going through this terrible time. Kind wishes are being aimed in your direction in abundance! Hang in there!!

Words are just not enough, but know that all of my heart is with you and for your strength and healing. Wow, this is just surreal.

I know this will probably sound harsh and I really don't mean it to...

I am only thankful this happened on the East coast of NZ.,,

If it had been the other side of the Island and there is a chance of a Tsunami generated by it, it could have smashed the Australian East Coast and possibly killed tens of thousands.

My Heart goes ot to my fellow Kiwi's (expat), I'm just thankful it didn't turn out more devistating..

the people i know down there have been contated and are fine
the quick responce was due to an earthquake drill under way
the army and navy were doing joint manuvers and were both at
littleton port
350 australian doctors were on conference in christchurch
and 6 or more american politicians were here also
the civil defence here are top notch and very orginized

Yes you do sound harsh.

wheather your comment is true or not, weather it is better for 65 plus kiwis to die than maybe tens of thousands of aussie, That doesnt matter. Personally I feel your comment is not appropriate to be said at this time, not while people are here moarning loved ones and trying to survive.

Being thankful it never effected you is fine, but now is not a good time to voice that! in my opinion

Total devestation.

65 confirmed dead, rescuers risking their lives all of tonight trying to find survivors.

And yes, to an earlier poster, churches have fallen down, even the almighty cathedral bell tower, which had a few people in it at the time - who definitely have not survived. Ironically, they were there trying to work out the damage from the September quake. A sick joke from the universe.

Hm, confirms what I have always said about Jesus Christ and churches.

This is a huge tragedy, and I have been grieving since I first learned of it.

Incase you missed it in my last post.. I am a Kiwi and I am still unsure if it has had any effect on my family in the area or not (curent;y we cannot get through)..!!

My point was, that I'm thankful it was not much worse. And Aussies are people to btw, who've had enough on their plate this year (and the year is only just beginning).

And I have just learnt, it is dark, cold and wet.

These are terrible conditions for the brave rescuers, and for those who still survive.

May God help them all.

I am aware aussie are people too, and I never in anyway suggested or even hinted at the thought that their lives were any less important.

I guess I just responded emotionally to the comment that you are thankful this happened in the east coast of NZ.
I know that within the context of your post, the line above isnt as harsh as it sounds alone.
I still think a comment like that isnt appropriate, however I admit I am responding emotionally and could likly be wrong.

whatever the case, we are going off topic, and debating this issue is well . . . .a non issue really.

As a Kiwi in Australia, this quake is devistating.
One woman said they've had 4000 aftershocks since the one in september. The look on her face, tears in the eyes, said it all ; not another one. You don't realise how you feel about things until it happens to you. Ive never cried like i did seeing the scenes of utter destruction, in the place where my heart lays its hat.
My deepest prayers to everyone , family and friends and brothers and sisters of christchurch.

I think the fact that this time there has been deaths is even more reason to turn to God. It's like the first quake was a wake up call for Christchurch,

Exodus 33:19 I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

I hope these events wake up some sleeping Christians

I concur, although after doing a stint of heli-filming last week, when it's windy it is very tricky, especially when you are zooming onto buildings like that.

More devastation, Boxing day was such a scare and now all this...

I'm still yet to account for one friend but I assume shes well,
