Link to recent BBC articlespeaking on the 7/7 inquests 'witness G' , who acts as chief of staff for the service's director general Jonathan Evans.
This is an official inquiry and he is in effect speaking on behalf of MI5

Personally I feel let down by MI5 not being able to protect the people that were killed and injured, when the bombers had already been previously been watched and followed by MI5 and photographed. AND were also of interest to the FBI who thought of them a threat to UK national security AND possibly the US, these thoughts were shared with MI5 but they[MI5] still failed to contact local authorities, who could have used powers to spy on the bombers, right up to the attacks.and used evidence to convict them.

You would think that if you were of interest to both the FBI, AND MI5 that you wouldn't be able to do such a horrific thing and go unoticed.

I know it is easy to criticise people with such hindsight now, like 'witness G' mentions. but this IS explicitly one of the reasons why MI5 exist's as an orginisation today.

We are responsible for protecting against threats to national security, such as terrorism.

The problem with defining their mission statement as "Protecting National Security" is that it has absolutely NOTHING to do with protecting the lives of their countrymen.

"National Security" could just as easily be defined as protecting corporate interests, the military industrial complex or preventing your agency's budget from being slashed.

In-other-words, they could easily justify allowing it to happen or actually orchestrating the events to happen because they could technically claim that by doing so they are "Protecting National Interests":

  • Their budgets got raised
  • They are purchasing more weapons & technology
  • They can push forward more draconian domestic spying laws

You see? They are protecting National Security.

The Real IRA managed to plant and detonate a fairly large explosive device right outside their headquarters in Northern Ireland just last year. This is a dissident group we have been told on numerous occasions by security forces, have limited power, influence, and technical ability. Not sure if the MI5 know what they are doing half the time.

Wasn't one of the terrorists involved in planning the 7/7 bombings released recently by the Americans? The whole situation is a joke and evidence that it was allowed to happen.
