Chinese Produce New Type of Sub; Discovery Seen as 'Surprise'

China's naval buildup has produced a new type of attack submarine that U.S. intelligence did not know was under construction, according to U.S. defense and intelligence officials.

An old friend of mine told me once that we used to hear the very first turn of a Russian submarine's screws, and follow its first patrol until it was ready to go back home- to the point that we knew everything about Russian submarines- not just the type but the individual one ship- right down to all the operational tendencies and bad habits of the crew.

I guess the good old days are gone. If this had happened in a communist nation, especially during the cold war, there would be a series of "unfortunate accidents" for the intelligence officials at fault.

Calm down the US subs and crew are the best in the world the Chinese cant compete with a diesel sub its obsolete it cant possibly be quieter than the US subs not to mention we have experience and tech on our side.
