TOKYO - North Korea recently took the unusual step of begging for food hand-outs from the foreign governments it usually threatens. Plagued by floods, an outbreak of a livestock disease and a brutal winter, the government ordered its embassies and diplomatic offices around the world to seek help.

North Korea is reportedly digging several tunnels at its nuclear test site in Punggye-ri, North Hamgyeong Province.

Yes, I mashed the two article headlines together, save from making two threads because I do believe the two are strongly linked.

Also, you can see here a new Missile facility was built as well:

Seems like they are using the food help thing as a strategy. Obviously if they're having nuclear tests they're having no problem with money. If I had to make a conclusion i would say that they're hoping to take as much from the U.S. as possible before they bomb us with a nuclear device. The world knows we are weak right now and to the world we are an enemy, it would be a perfect time to strike. North Korea is also what I would consider 1 of the dangerous 3 countries that would bomb USA with a nuclear device... #1 (extremeist terrorist) #2 (North Korea) #3 (Israel [false flag or otherwise])

We were warned last week in the news story that the chance of a weapon of mass destruction device is 100% which leads me to believe the government is going to allow the bombing of the USA in returns of debt.

This is the joy of an overly powerful, socialist government. Didn't three million people starve to death in their "utopia" while the government was building a mega billion dollar hotel to show the world how great their socialistic system was?
Same as the Soviet Union, another socialist utopia where people stood in line for bread and were paid in vodka.
Socialism is soooo the answer to the worlds problems. It clearly works so well

We should insult them like Red China did recently by sending them Corn instead of rice
but with a twist, we send them pop ready corn that way the radiation that's leaked will pop the corn so they can enjoy the fallout show.

Actually its probably the other way around.

The North Korean nuclear program is thier big bargaining chip. They think they can use it to demand things from the west in return for 'suspending' it. Meanwhile they can make money selling the expertise to third parties.

I wouldn't take thier nuclear dabbling as a sign of the regimes economic strength. Regardless of the economy its easy to find money for military projects if you don't mind your civilians starving to death. As long as the army is getting fed things will carry on.

There is no intent to actually attack the west with it. Its for extortion and as insurance against regime change.

The funny thing about this show of power is we can knock out every missle launch base they have in a matter of of hrs if not minutes.

I feel sorry for the NK citizens, they're just a long for the ride with an insane Dictatorship. It's one thing for a country to starve their people but to also use them as pawns to be wiped off the planet is just absurd for lack of better words.

Yeah,
I pointed that out on some thread back in December. They were rattling the sabers for a handout. They did it with Clinton and after all of that food, money and technology they were given they still continued the nuke program. I laughed when Madeline Albright had the temerity to act suprised about it.

It's a truly tragic situation for the people of NK. They were already starving prior to these latest events.

Perhaps the answer would be to provide aid but to insist that the aid is distributed under the eyes of an international aid agency. It wouldn't stop the corruption or diversion of the food to the wealthy but at least some would go to its intended source. Saying that though the country is vast and would require a massive influx of aid workers so probably not viable.

Is it me or does North Korea remind you of a spoilt child threatening to scream and fight if it doesn't get its own way all the time?

The NK people are suffering at the hands of a psychopath and his experimental government.

If you have time, watch this informative and entertaining short VBS expose on their secret visit (guised as press with the philharmonic orchestra) to NK. I was shocked and I've seen a lot on NK and the abuse there. The anthropological perspective is great.

NK is a nuclear "Accident just waiting to happen....
They are gonna keep pshing hard for a workable bomb, and they have no compunctions about damage to their people.
I am sure they lack all kinds of adaquate safe gards for their nuclear efforts.
The radiation from their last fiasco is bad enogh, but another fizzle would really ice the cake....

True to your mood, provocative is your post. The widespread famine of the 90s left an estimated 900,000- 3.5 million people dead in North Korea. Insult the North Korean government, but not its long-suffering people.

Stop with this misinfo. NK is not a socialist society. It's a communist society. Misinformation, like this, is the reason why there is an ignorance about socialism in ignorant countries.

Insulting their people is what China did a few months back when they sent tonnes of Corn instead of Rice. There were a few members posts and replies on the matter. But as many here have already pointed out. This has been a recurring theme with their Government. Threaten or pop off a nuke in an attempt to bully and or intimidate their neighbors into giving them what they want.

This is getting old even by the Korean issue standards...

If the NK army gets hungry enough they just might turn on their own leader. It's just too bad that the poor and helpless have to suffer with them. I know it sounds cruel.... but we either have to go in there ourselves and take him out or have them do it. Personally i think we should capture the bast$%d and tie him up and let him watch the poor get fed a feast while he starves.

Yeah, there's the answer. Another target for the American military?
I'm wondering if this is disinfo from American- allied media companies to give America another chance to invade a country and be in a strategical position next to China? American military invasions is becoming old.

Yes, I know about the speculation about Pyongyang possibly having WMD's, a.k.a. nukes, but as of now, it's speculation. I fear America has to ante up again for fear of looking like a failure after the last two 'wars'. Gotta flex those muscles, right?

I agree completely that the last thing that America needs to do is get involved in another war. I wish we had all of our troops on our own soil. As well as all of our manufacturing. It's hard to know what the answer is when you hear about something like this. We need some kind of indestructable and unstoppable righteous warrior to straighten things out around the world. Key word being "Righteous". A truly selfless being that had the power to run the world.

I hate to say but that's what we should do, cut them off and let nature take it's course. Every country has their threshold and the NK citizens have past their's let them take back their own country as are many in the Middle East and then we can help them, can't help those who don't want to help themselves. Much fewer civillian casualties than us trying to intervine. You have to remove Kim before anything will change for them... but is that our job?

Here's the reasons why I say 'no' to an American military invasion of NK:

1. America and its' citizen couldn't handle the economic burden of another war for several reasons.

2.Let's say NK has had nukes for awhile. They haven't used one YET and I really don't think China would let them, either. China is 'running' a campaign, if you will, to persuade the world it should be the mightiest power and that would tarnish their image further.

3.Let's say America goes in and invades NK, militarily. That would be like trapping a scared person in a corner with no way out. We all know that's the WORST thing to do, wheras, a scared person is going to do everything they can to get out of the corner, so to speak. That's a risk of them (NK) possibly USING a nuke (if they have one) and that puts America in a terrible predicament:

A) use a nuke in retaliation>massive loss of life, ruined beyond repair of world image, pissing off and scaring China to react, giving Israel the go against its' enemies, domino effect around the world.

B) don't use a nuke and by not doing that, ruining American image around the world as far as being percieved as weak by some (terrorists, rogue nations, etc.) thus sparking more catastrophes from these characters and sparking more acts of terrorism on and off American soil.

Screwed either way. Best option: let them continue to threaten because history has shown, they don't so anything. Let China handle them. If they do use a nuke, if they have one, the world will come together and get this resolved. Best to sit back for now, IMHO.
