Hi, What you're seeing is the aft shroud of the telescope. If you'll check the link and scroll down to page 5-6 there is a diagram and explanation about it's removal process for service.

Sorry, on this one I don't think it's a saucer it matches the lens perfectly.

I'm sorry but that image of a "flying saucer" completely matches the apature of the telescope, to me it's just a reflection, all the shadows/marks/lines match up to the telescope. Also if its a flying saucer it's not very big. Hubble is the size of a large car, which would make that saucer shaped reflection very small for its ocupants.

Agreed ... this is a reflection or some residual reflection of the hubble lens light ... same dimenstions and everything ... I think the OP got confused and wanted to really see something after going thru 10000 images .. lol ..

Yes, I do agree it's very coincidentally the same size (or seemingly so) but what is it reflecting off of?

Imagine this for a moment:

You and your friend are in a pitch dark cave
No lights.
You are holding a metallic canteen.
You're buddy takes a photo (with a flash) of you holding this metal canteen.
Get's the photo home and notices the 'canteen' is casting a reflective shadow of sorts below itself.

My question is, what is it being reflective off of? You need 'something' to saturate and/or reflect an object.

A shadow or reflection just doesn't hang in empty space.

I am not saying this isn't a cover but can someone explain to me how a reflection works in deep space when there is no background or substance to it?

Thanks

if you placed a peice of glass between you and the object you would get a reflection. Thats what is happening here.
Edit to add.
The reflection is on the shuttle window perhaps. also depending on wether there's a glass cover over the lens of the camera taking the shot, it could also be that.

everybody is posted images of the ass-end of Hubble. The cover flips down 90degrees, and remains attached and is the smaller end of Hubble.
The "ufo" is probably image artifact from camera flash on window the image is being taken out from.

Just a thought. But the fat end of hubble is the backend, the smaller end is the opening for the telescope.

Here is a link to a high resolution version of the photograph:
sts-109-337-004

in this image you can clearly see the shape of hubble in the blackness. It is obviously a reflection.

People there are more pressing concerns in this world, than, in my opinion, trying to argue about this picture of Hubble and reflection.

What annoys me the most are the unscrupulous people out there using photos like to publish books/videos and make money of the backs of genuine people looking for genuine answers!!

I second this sentiment:

What annoys me the most are the unscrupulous people out there ....

...and all the rest. BUT, will add: I also find it annoying and a waste of ATS' time and space (pun) to bring every stupid "Tom, Dick and Harry" YouTube video here. A respectable and responsible ATS member should, first, ascertain the validity of said YouTube video...and NOT take it at its word, merely based on its (misspelled usually...as is this one's) title!!!

There are literally thousands of hours of garbage on YouTube. Like this video that was basis for this (wasted) thread!! Why spread it around, to a respectable site like ATS, and give the inane YouTuber unwarranted extra exposure???

First of all it's not a garbage picture, it's easy to see why this image could cause some confusion and prompt someone to post it and ask questions about it, which by the way is a primary function of a forum. Or would you prefer one not ask questions or seek answers and remain ignorant?

Second it is fully within any members discretion to NOT TO OPEN A THREAD or having opened one and finding the OP offensive to your intellect somehow to CLOSE IT. You bitch about wasted space but so many posts are pseudo-intellects putting someone down for a personal interpretation. Why do this? Because the desire to argue and be right supercedes the desire to learn, debate and discuss.

Take a hard look at where all the markings are on that lens cover. It's hard to see because it's whited out but you can see it. Now look at all the markings on the 'ufo'. They are EXACTLY the same.

Unfortunately it is a reflection probably off the lens of the camera.

Edit:
And again as always on ats someone else beat me to the punch. This time it was Chadwickus.

Like minds I do dare say.

Thanks for the Hi-Res image, looks like a reflection to me as well.

Its very clearly a reflection, I assume that the camera that took the picture wasn't floating in space on its own but was in fact behind glass?

Yes, the photo was taken from behind a window on the shuttle. Simple as that. Why could you not figure that out? This is beyond a doubt, reasonable or otherwise, a reflection. Why are you trying to argue otherwise?

So according to the dying scientist who does not sound delusional but we cannot rule it out with any certainly...most humans are already hosts to alien beings living in our consciousness. At least that might explain why we seem to be here at all...hosts for another entity. Perhaps we are to aliens like "cars" are to us?

Funny to think about...not saying it's true but it is interesting to think about possibly being true.

If you check out all of Nasajims post on youtube, chronologically, you discover that he has cancer and is dying, thus the need for the revealing of "secret information." I am not saying it is true or not, only that it at leasts presents the ideas of what other life may be. I think it is a hoax, myself.

I will warn you, if you check out all his videos, after awhile, you might wonder if you are having an acid flashback or if someone spiked your coffee.

For a fellow with all the answers you certainly have an awful lot of questions.

I love the commentary at the beginning.. what you're about to see is the biggest nasa cover up EVER! .. and how did they pull it off? .. well ladies and gentleman, they locked this huge, massive cover up by putting it in a folder, within a folder, within a folder.. on the public archives! .. nobody would ever think to look there for it.. it's certainly more secure there, than say.. not in the public archive..

Nevertheless, that sort of intro convinced me what I was about to see would be underwhelming and not at all UFO related.. and it sure doesn't appear to be.. either that or NASA hides their UFO pictures the same way most hide their porn folders.
