Hi. I just received an email from a teacher friend who has been working in Benghazi for almost a year. I hope he makes it out of Libya safely........

Finally got out of [the war zone that is now] Bengahzi today by the skin of my teeth - NO thanks to the BC / FCO.

news.google.co.uk...

In Tripoli, trying to organize a flight to the UK ASAP. Can't make a reservation on BA online.

Will try travel agent tomorrow. Not out of the woods yet by any means. Gunfire fairly close.

Several colleagues being bombed in Benghazi - can't get flights, overland very dangerous.

Terrible times. I hope he makes it.

Hi there,

Same here stuck in Tripoli, U2U me, as our companies may be giving different information, we can pool any info here. my internet is intermittent at the moment, and slow when it does work.

Word is Tripoli is safe for now, but it seems that demonstrations are getting closer by the day.

Peace.

Many thanks for this Trueman.

I hope that my friend has these details as I sent them to him early this morning but as the gunfire is getting closer, the best thing would be for all foreign workers to get to the airport asap.

Best wishes

Will light joss sticks and say prayers that those who are there remain safe. Best would be for them to go to the embassies of their countries... beyond that - public forum and no comment as to secondary evac options. Hope that they make it home safely..

UPDATE

Just received a text to say he's landed in London.
Thanks for all the advice and prayers.
Let's hope the other ex-pats get out OK and that those who stay are safe.

So wonderful to hear your friend got out. We should remember those who are still trapped in foreign lands that are suffering terrible conflict. Let us pray for them all, that they are safe and back at home with those they love soon.
