According to the WT-article, China has developed a new type of submarine to the full suprise of US intelligence. These subs are powered by
diesel-electric and are so quiet in the water that it is difficult for U.S. forces to detect and track them.
Thatīs the sort of nasty surprise that an American carrier fleet wouldnīt like....a Chinese sub launching 8 torpedoes into the side of the carrier
from inside its defensive perimeter of escort vessels.

I read from some article that in some US+allies wargame, diesel subs `sank` US-carriers and fews nuclear subs too, just because they were quiet and
could not be detected by US-subs. True that they need to surface to recharge batteries but as stated in the article(did you read it?), battery
technology has taken few leaps since WW2 and the U-boats etc.

That is pure bunk. The subs that they sunk were operating with sound augmenters attached to them. They make a increase in the radiated noise from
the nuclear subs. Without them the diesels would have a much harder time in locating them.

How can we trust someone who doesn't know a thing about ASW work? IF you did you would have never made such a stupid statement.
Stick to the army topics, Navy topics are way out of your league.

"Diesel-electric submarines can be effective for missions such as coastal defense, where high speed and long range are not crucial. Operating on
virtually silent electric motors underwater, they are inherently quieter than nuclear-powered boats with their coolant pumps. Diesel-electric
submarines are also less costly to build and maintain. Courtesy U.S. Naval Institute "
And this is not to debate nuclear vs diesel, just an article how the PLA managed to develop a new type of sub.

this could get interesting with all the stuff going on around taiwan, with china's "d-day like simulated invasion" and our fleets over there.
what sort of subs are these? attack subs? or defensive subs? the information Samiralfey posted makes it seem like they would be purely defensive, or
at least good only a few hundred miles out, but if they're nearly undetectable by our ships then it could make a good first strike platform. one of
the links did say that some diesel-electric subs are capable of carrying ballistic missiles.

I find so funny that we are so interested in china in this time and age, its like US has to have some country around to keep the war games and spy
games alive.
Before china was Russia, what happened to them? Obviously they are not a problem for US anymore. And in my opinion they never were.
Now china, a country in wish the aids epidemic, the sars virus, hunger, and discontent of their oppress people is something you rarely see in TV, even
childbirth is control.
Now they are the enemies, they are targeting America, we thing they are a powerful enemy and the reality is that perhaps this is in my opinion very
far from the truth.
Where does China find the money to finance all this powerful arm forces that we think they have or where they get the money to build submarines and
other war equipment. And if they are so dangerous why UN and US have gone blind when it comes to them.

yeah, i find this funny as well. if china is such a problem for the US, why are we basically supporting their economy? apparantly they're not a big
enough enemy yet for us to stop making money off of them!

umm u dont have the best trained diesel or nuclear sub crews in the world look it up nd check it for your self if u dont believe me.
this sub sounds dangerous to the carrier fleets like maybe the US shoudl invest in diesels. but the US sub crews are pretty good and would nail the
sub but the carrier might not make it.

Because America funds about 30% of their economy. Which is why they would never attack us.

The Chinese cant even come close to the naval technologies of Russia and America. Thoguh America has aneough money to fund them Russia only has little
to fund on one project. But the plans drawn up for them are equipped witht he best technology in the world (probably).

Trust me 7 carrier groups would have 3 subs a group which are the best subs in the world and the Chinese have nothing compared to them this is a first
step for china if they want a blue water navy but to say that this sub will take out our carrier fleets is an overstatement.

RockerDom,
That is exactly what I thought, US knows very well what China have, one is building, what his plans are and how is planning to use them, after all we
have help them become the power they are. Right?
So US know how to destroy that power.

Exactly. I've been trying to get that across for ages now. Chinese trade with US is too good atm for China to do anything.

Have to agree with you there Westpoint. The US had practiced and perfected the art of ASW since the first world war. If hostilities were pending, you
can bet there will be more than just the 3 subs assigned to each CBG to keep the seas safe. If the ChiCom SSBN is actually out to sea, I have no doubt
right now one of our subs is stalking her as we speak.

great news.
Just want to point out some facts. It is not china that threatens the US; rather it is the US that threatens China directly or indirectly with its
pawns, such as Taiwan, Japan, etc. China is not interested in threatening the US because we don't want to do that and besides our ICBMs have no
means of threatening the US. The reason we don't want to threaten the US is due to economic reason.
Second. Yes, China relies on the US market for our exports, but the US also owes huge to China because China is the second largest US creditor after
Japan. You have to thank us for buying your government bonds to keep your country afloat. Without countries like Japan and China, the US will go
bankrupt. So in a sense, the two countries are mutually dependent and we both look out for our own interest and that is all.
BTW, just want to show you a very recent photo of some Chinese Aegis equivalent DDGs and stealth FFGs just completed. We are not exactly as backward
as you think.
3 new DDGS and 1 FFG completed at the same time.

No one has perfected anything. In fact the japanese were considered to have the best ASW in the world, not the US. Yet, a few months back, a chinese
sub surfaced very close to the Japanese space center undetected and this has sent a shock wave across western military world.
