I posted this a little while ago on another thread but figured it would be rude to hijack someone else's post space. This image flashed on DISH Earth at the time it says on screen. That particular channel only updates a pic every 15 seconds so I have no idea where this thing originated or what caused it but it looks like a massive shockwave.
Let me know what you think.
In case youwant to find the footage it was on DISH Earth 2 / 20 / 2011 02 ' 45 or 12: 02 am.

Back in December I was watching Dish Earth and on two separate days and both within a few days of each other. I noticed that lil dots, would travel across the screen... from one side to the other...this would happen just as the image became clear... and around 9am-ish ...I just become aware of dish Earth a few days prior... I asked my cousin, whom acquanted me with the channel... if he has seen anything of the like... he said no, never...

So it was kinda odd to me...

As far as that picture you shared... i dont know much about it... i never watch it at night... looks strange enough don't it? hopefully some experts will come along and enlighten us both

Dish Earth is channel 287 on DISH Network satellite TV subscribers...

The picture is supposedly take by one of their satellites at 20,000 miles from Earth... its continuous picture updates 24/7 365 days a year... a night the image is funky to say the least

hope that helps...

DISH Earth is channel 287 on dish network. I'm pretty sure it is the only live unaltered feed from a camera observing Earth.
I took the pic from my couch a little while ago. Thank God for DVR because I seriously doubt the network has archival footage available to the public.

The colored spots are satellites. I have no idea what causes the night feed to be so funky but my assumption would be the tremendous amount of contrast. What caused this in the photo us beyond me. I didn't know space had the necessary components to create a visable shockwave. What is the wave we are seeing if it is in a vacuum?

I watch this channel all the time and understand that a dimple is always visible on the night feed. This was different.

Hmmm, that doesn't seem like the moon to me, I thought the moon was just a bit bigger than that, but also a lot further away. Seems to me like it would be pulled in to Earth if it were that close, but I could be wrong.

EDIT: Here is a picture that gives us an idea of the size of the moon:

And I'm not sure if this is to scale, but the distance is something more like what i would expect:
