Always a possibility, I would think that the declaration of martial law would result in even greater chaos
though. Can you imagine 350 million Americans being told when to wipe their azz?

There is no way that would go over smoothly.

Yes Doc, they raided the cookie jar, mismanaged, and now they want to take away Grandma's pittance.

You people have got to be kidding me. The democrat's are complaining over a minuscule 61B dollar budget cut?

We will accrue that much in interest on the national debt in about 6 weeks even if we had a balanced budget from this point forward. (As you all know we do not.) (See The democrats and republicans in congress are going to have to stomach a lot more cuts than this in the coming months. And no, they can not kick the can on down the road any further. The country is up against the wall.

The fact is we as a people and our elected officials have to make cuts in all areas of the budget.

This includes education, defense, and the give away programs. Hundreds of government programs should be cut and cut now. As far as entitlements go (the real ones - SS and Med) long term reform is needed, you really cant change how they pay today, but you can adjust what happens in the future for those, and readdress them if/when the economy recovers.

It is time to quit complaining and pointing fingers and playing politics, call your representatives in congress and tell them to support the budget cuts.

At least ask them to propose alternate cuts of equal benefit, and have at least a place to start bargaining, instead of just whining like spoiled children. They should be prepared to pass a bill an get it to the president for signature in the next week. If he veto's it, override it. We have to cut spending money we don't have.

As it stands now, the democratic senators will be responsible for the shutdown, not the members of house. The house has done their part and passed the bill.

I'm curious. You mention cutting back on entitlement programs--feed and educate people, keep elderly and disabled folks in homes (or shabby apartments like myself), programs like NPR and PBS who keep us informed and a little more educated than "let's Make A Deal". What about the cut to Planned parenthood? Sure, help create more babies, that's the answer. But don't forget to fund birth control for wild horses!

Obviously you have never been old, disabled, poor or dependent. Please think about what you say, and look into the facts. is a great place to start.

How about cutting government employees? What about congressmen/women working for free? They all have separate incomes other than their govt pay. If they are so service minded, I'm sure they won't mind.

And what about your contribution to the system. Are you willing to work and pay into the programs, but not expect to receive promised services when YOU need them. No doubt your views will change.

Good Luck.

Hey Teo,
How can you assert claims like that? I have to call hasty generalization on your assumptions.

I can assure you that I know damn well firsthand what complete and utter loss is.

As well as financial ruin and poverty level income.

I have been there. A dark and fiery place. All alone.

yeah well lets see.....bail out the banksters, spend unlimited supply on .mil, and hit the average folks
with austerity measures.

Unacceptable. Again mismanagement.

Smoothly? Probably not. But we know They have plans in place to (truly) establish matial law. It will be more successful in some places and less so in others. Besides, the goal is not to maintain control, it's to have an excuse to kill us.

I'm thinkin'.

With you all the way B. Heartless sociopaths are criminal to even consider it. I would like to see them
cut their own salaries and benefits. Even better, why don't they work for free for a while. If they love this
country so much? Get some blisters on their hands doing some charity work as well.

Cut out the expensive suits, dining, travel, and $400 haircuts as well.

I am with you wild, there are lot more cuts that are needed. We as a people need to press our congressional leaders to get the job done . It wont be easy, but has to be done.

It is time for our leaders to compromise and work towards this common goal. The political game at our expense has to stop.

Thanks for the opportunity to express my opinion.

I don't think there would be a complete shutdown of the government , that would be total chaos , they would probably stop welfare and foodstamp programs , trash pickups , police escorts , and mail delivery , but it would be only for a couple of weeks , then again I could be totally wrong , all hell could break loose.

so this is what accelerates of the fall of the American Empire? Then I can't wait for the Republic the true rightful government.

Bertapearl? Are you insane? CUT the government work force? We're going to hire more IRS adgents to make sure no one is stealing from the Big Guys.. errrrr I meant you and me.

Oops, I meant to enforce Healthcare mandate... My bad.

Yeah, IRS to hire for Healthcare... Sounds Gestapo ish to me.

MORE people will work on bartering and ways to NOT declare taxes. Happening everywhere.

We ARE in a new age of monetary value. Your worth will be evaluated by the day and week, as opposed to yearly reviews.

Are you an asset or a liability? I ask and remind myself that all the time.

I don't like it.. but I'm not making the rules...just reacting to the new ones.

Government employees are the HARDEST to ask the liability asset question.. TRY and remove their position.

Let it shut down PERMANENTLY!!! good riddens rest in pieces "R.I.P." and don't come back!!!

posted on Feb, 20 2011 @ 01:07 PM
Try not to think of this. as being off topic ok?
Maybe just thinking outside the box. Has anyone considered there may be a bigger reason that looms. A government shut down
can come about for many different reasons can it not? There might be some significance to this comet Elenin
(documented) that is lining up with the earth and the sun on the 15th. Now Nasa has been playing dodge ball
with anoucements of a new planet that is a part of our solar system. Just a heads up really!

Unfortunately, no joke at all.

You can thank the Tea Party zealots for this: they've dug their ignorant heels into the dirt and are refusing to budge unless their pet hates are defunded: Planned Parenthood and Healthcare. They apparently seem to think it would be a joyous thing to shut the government down for as long as possible.

Why on earth do voters elect people who don't believe in government?

Well. I for one can't wait to hear the neocons rise up with a great Hallelujah! when their SS & military retirement checks don't arrive, and none of the services they take for granted are there.

What those myopic TP'ers don't realize is that they will be responsible for the deaths of GIs who will lack air cover when the money for fuel runs joke there either: this happened once when I was in the AF, our squadron couldn't fly for a week because the fuel was needed elsewhere, and Congress was fighting over the budget like now.

It is not the job of the Fed Govt to provide for the masses.
I am glad that there are finally some people that are refusing to give in to the budget issue.
The Military is not within the budget that they are talking about. Also, the Military is on reality funded for a year past the fiscal budget date. trying to pull the whole "What about the military" crap from someone stating that certain people are neocons is just BS.
I say let them shut down.

What the spending bill cuts vs. what it funds... yes, let them rob and poison us more than they already do. Cool beans. Maybe our kids will be the X-Men, which would come in handy during food riots, I'll bet. One more step towards returning everyone but the super rich to peasant class. At least the GOP is open about who they're really working for.

Maybe we all have to hit bottom before reality sinks in. I don't know.

I really hate to say it but maybe a government shutdown isn't a bad thing. Think about it - All the unchecked spending and illegitimate deals being made on our behalf would essentially end. If troops don't get paid then they will simply walk away. What would you do if you worked for a month and didn't get your paychecks that were due to you? I know I'd certainly take what I thought was fair payment and leave.

In order to fix our economic issues we need to do what a lot of people are saying. Get rid of all the unneeded spending, cut the MIC budgets and get rid of a ton of social services. Unfortunately a lot of people will suffer but hell I work a full time job, go to school and pay a ton of bills. I'm grateful for the job I have but I don't think it's entirely by luck I have it. Every day I see people who drive BMW's and Mercedes collecting unemployment or state aid. I see people collecting disability and carrying TV's. Unfortunately I hate to say it but Americans have increased their dependence on the government and they've complied. It's time that we try walking tall on our own feet and stop sucking the tit of American Government. This will also let us tell the Government to stay the hell out of our lives and let us keep as much of the money we make to take care of ourselves.

ok I'm done.... sorry.

Troops wont just walk away. The military is not like that.
Besides, their paychecks would not stop. Its paid out of a different Govt pocket.
