Doesn't the international space station kind of trump this? The tower of babel was most likely a zigaurat it is highly unlikely that it was a space elevator.

Are you referring to Mangrove trees which are adapted to live in a brackish enivorment?

Mangroves are various kinds of trees up to medium height and shrubs that grow in saline coastal sediment habitats in the tropics and subtropics – mainly between latitudes 25° N and 25° S. Such bosks are also part of the mangrove forest biome. The saline conditions tolerated by various species range from brackish water, through pure seawater (30 to 40 ppt), to water concentrated by evaporation to over twice the salinity of ocean seawater (up to 90 ppt).[1][2]

why would he need to worry about the animals in the ocean? dont they normally swim? wouldnt they be better off left to the oceans?

What about the freshwater organisms in lakes and rivers when the water level rises the increase in salinity would kill them all off? Plus lake and river organism are not adapted to open sea even if they were to tolerate the salinity.
