A police officer working for a North Oil Company who was guarding a checkpoint, was killed by insurgents as they sabotaged various oil lines in
Iraq's north and south. Over the past few weeks insurgents have targeted oil lines in Iraq to sabotage the new Iraqi government reconstruction
efforts. These attacks have cost the country about $1 billion.
Iraq oil lines sabotaged
Saboteurs drilled holes into the pipeline and authorities suspected that the damage was caused by smugglers.
The pipelines runs to offshore export terminals, but it was not immediately clear if oil exports were affected.
The damage to the pipeline comes a little more than a week after exports were cut in half by damage to the smaller of the two export pipelines which,
together, transport about 90 per cent of the country's exports.

About 30 km south from this site an explosion breached another oil pipeline, which runs from the northern oil fields to a refinery in Beiji. The fire
from the explosion was put out, but witnesses at the scene reported that there were pools surrounding the site where the pipeline was sabotaged and
smoke is still billowing from the line.
It is actually news of an attack against the new Iraqi government.... i do think it is important to know this. Oh btw has anyone seen on tv the
demonstrations of Iraqis in the streets that want Saddam executed?
