For all those bragging about their knowlwdge of the history of Palestine/Israel I would suggest this drama is a must see The Promise - Channel 4 which is currently running. The first 2 episodes are available to watch again - the 3rd is showing tonight.

It shows historical and current issues - it made me weep for ALL of those involved and is the first time in my entire life that I have seen the situation properly explained.

I grew up hearing 'occupied territories' on the news - and never fully understood what that actually meant. By the time I was in my early twenties I well knew. My son's father was a journalist out there in the late 70's. I strongly advise everyone to watch this drama series.

In view of current events in the Middle East and this latest veto the US are merrily hammering nails into the coffin of their influence in the region.

Israel is no theocracy but is fast becoming an apartheid state. We still celebrate Mandella for his part in ending that regime in Sth Africa...and remember Mandella was imprisoned for blowing up a supermarket. Terrorist or freedom fighter?

I've been shot at by my own side and know just how easy it can happen.

Irregardless, that matter is off-topic and maybe the basis for another thread. BackinBlack is really good at throwing as much crap as he can throw, hoping something will stick.

The land is Israeli land, and if they want to build on it, let someone stop them.

You don't like it? Take your butt over there, pick up an AK and have at it!

Don't let anything but fear stop you.

The problem with that is when someone does try and stop them, beep, they are the bad guy.

Is it possible that Obama/Clinton actually would like to see the demise of Israel.

Lets face it the US support of Israel has cost America so much in terms of money, legitimacy, credibility .... and lives.

Any semi sensible person can see they should abandon the project, but of course the zionists surrounding him make that difficult.

So this current unrest in the ME could be a god send for Obama. All he has to do is let it happen. Even better stoke up further controversay to fan the flames and stand back and watch the area descend into irreversible chaos.

It will be an unpopular opinion on this board, but until America changes it's policy in the Middle East and forcing Israel back to its agreed borders, the nightmare in the middle east will continue and more Extremists will want to blow up Americans.

I am touched by your post, and thank you for your empathatic post that not many can ever produce honestly. It came from the heart. And that's what matters most, for the heart is seldom wrong, more so from one that is educated and informed as you are.

The sufferings continue on. The deprivations lingers unstopped. A people unnecessarily thumbed down, for only seeking freedom, freedom that you and I only seek, common aspirations in life.

I had once condemn the Hamas organisation in severat boards, and finally they saw the light and came to the negotiating table. BUT unfortunately, the zionists leadership were an obstacle to peace negotiations. They wanted to conduct an imperial policy of builiding settlements upon occupied lands, akin to colonialism, which had been stopped by world powers since 1945.

They not only disregarded world opinion and shown their middle finger to us all, they continue to do so, and enact harsh apathied laws upon a free group of humanity that the Palestinians are. They are our brothers and sisters by divine creation, not lesser humans and fully capable of helping mankind to evolve, just as anyone else is.

Today, in view of the US veto, I make my stand. There comes a time when terrorists become freedom fighters. With their backs against the wall, the only way is to surge forward by all means, including sacrificing their lives for freedom. The threat of religion extremism is long past.

It is beyond religion that the palestinians are fighting. It is the right to be free, free from discriminations and freedom to speak out on atrocities, that they seek, just as the freedoms that the founding fathers of USA had sought for, even though forgotten and derided today by politicians whom view it as only a piece of paper, even though written by blood and sacrifice of ancestors so that generations may be free today.

Even as the President, only a representative of the american nation and speaks/act on their behalf, gives the veto, my heart and mind goes to those that will do all it takes to ensure their own freedom, but with fervant hopes that only those whom are responsible for the veto - the legislators and lobbies, be targetted, and spare the many innocents.

If i am to be labelled as a terrorist for my support, just as the founding fathers are to be thus labelled as well, then so be it, I fully authorise the owners of this site to give my particulars to the authorities if they request. The rest will have to come from their own means. I don't intend to do their homework for them. Haul me to gitmo bay, torture me, or do whatever.

The sufferings in the ME must end now, and if my small and insignificant easily forgotten but recorded here support can help accelerate it, so be it. I want no part in the US veto. I am annonymous. I am legion. One down, billions more to go. There is not enough bullets to kill us all. I lay down my precious life for them, in the hope that they will lay down theirs, not all, but enough will, not for the insignificant nobody me, but for humanity and our future generations' sake.

This is the least that I, unfortunately can do, besides reaching out to others.

It may not come to that, as news had shown the Palestinian authority are more civic minded and had appealed using legal means for another referrendum on the issue. May they succeed and hold Israel accountable, by the rest of the world through economic sanctions and more, so that our Palestinians brothers and sisters be free finally..

The problem is holding on to your gain. The Jews have held onto Israel for 62 years. If the Jews hold onto it for another 340 years then they match the Ottoman Turks record. But the problem is that the Arabs and Iranians are getting stronger by the day. And there are a lot more of them. The Jews are lucky if they can hold onto Israel for 100 years.

Good analysis of the situation. What is also important to point out is that religious fanaticism is also one of the main contributors to the illegal land grab. It is when people call themselves the chosen ones by some form of god or another that you get irrational feelings of superiority. The extremists who now are in power in Israel believe it is their godly right to take those lands. They are no different than the Bin Laden's or Talibans of this world. The Israeli people are the ones who need to vote the fanatics out of office and make use of common sense, international law and above all, humanist thought.

The Saudi government now is saying that it's better to be an enemy of the USA than a friend.

President Obama wanted the Russian government's support to pass the S-T-A-R-T treaty. The Russians wanted the nuclear secrets of England. Obama called the proper officials of Great Britain, and they said NO. Obama gave England's nuclear secrets to the Russians anyway

The rest of the story will be decided and told in the upcoming weeks and days.

There are no "Palestinian" lands. The Palestinians started, and lost three wars against Israel, and lost all three. Therefore, they are conquered lands, not occupied. whine..... cry.... beetch and moan... "we lost the wars, but can we have our land back? It never was their land. What they do have was awarded them by the U.N. because their members hate the Jews, too.

85% of the U.N. members are tyrants and/or dictators in $10K suits. THEY are the ones who want a new-Socialist World Order. Get used to it.

All the Arabs in Israel and surrounding areas are from the various Arab nations, such as Jordan, Syria, Egypt, Lebanon and other Arab nations.

Prominent PLO Arab says there are no ‘Palestinians’ and no “Palestine”

PLO executive committee member Zahir Muhsein admitted in a March 31, 1977 interview with a Dutch newspaper Trouw.

“The Palestinian people do not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct ‘Palestinian people’ to oppose Zionism. ”
