I don't mind Liberals.. I do have a problem with Progressives .. the ultra left of left. Liberal is center left.

The government will never be out of the way because even if the federal government is out every other instance of government from the state on down will see how they can make the market work in their favor.

The State's don't have printing presses.

At least not yet.

When the chaos is unleashed, it is of primary importance that private mints be the only ones allowed to issue gold backed currency.

If the state government's get their paws on the printing press, it is only a matter of time until we experience another monetary failure.

Keeping the currency backed by a commodity makes it vastly more difficult for the government to loot people, because then the people can plainly see just how much is being stolen from them.

Printing money isn't the only way to control the market. They can control the resources, the rights to work the resources, the right to sell the products that are produced placing limits, licenses, taxes or right out outlaw certain products.

Why would the state government already in power go back to a backed currency if it makes it harder to steal? They would probably just keep on doing what the fed has done then after that is ready to fall they will announce that in order to form a more stable economy the will form a union with other states.

Indeed, violent control of resources by the criminal government is problem that needs to be addressed. Which again, is why I take the position that no State is the only plausible solution.

The government will go back to a commodity backed currency because the people will demand it after they see what has happened when government was given control of the printing press.

You are forgetting that the dollar is going to end in chaos because the government will not stop issuing debt (printing money).

When a loaf of bread costs a hundred bucks, you'll see people rioting to go back to the gold standard.

It is the extremes of either the right or the left that get us into trouble.

Liberals have become synonymous all too often with the far left and conservatives are often thought of as being far too authoritarian and intolerant. Some day we will all meet in the middle and when we do we will discover what our founders were thinking of when they insisted upon having two dominant political parties with numerous checks and balances and no official religion.

Until then the thinkers of the world will sit and wait patiently while the mouths of the world rave on.

That is probably the way it should work but as per the OP the left/right pony show has been working for quite some time. I have seen old literature (late 60's early 70's?) saying the same things you are saying and the US has not imploded yet. The have found a way to keep the citizens happy enough to not revolt.

Keep thinking everything will be fine.

I just purchased a years supply of freeze dried food, and I plan on purchasing more.

Those who think the government can run trillion dollar deficits year after year with no consequences are deluding themselves.

Currently producer prices on commodities are up well over 11% in six months, cotton is up over 40%.

Make no mistake, the day of reckoning is close at hand.

That is exactly what I have been hearing for 30 years and according to the old lit it's been said for at least 40. If anything like that were to happen it would be a means to an end. Probably the NAU or even a one world currency or government. I don't have a problem with any of those.

Whether you believe me or not is inconsequential.

Economic laws are clear and they can not be avoided by printing money.

I'm simply giving you a warning that we are about to face some epic consequences for our disastrous monetary policy that has been in place since the inception of the federal reserve, and expanded greatly since the US formerly went off the gold standard in 1969.

The bubble of all bubbles is going to burst, and it's been a 100 years in the making.

The end of the Roman empire is the only comparable event in human history.

It is impossible, because today's Right is racist, corrosive and celebratory of ignorance

Odd, you chastise the Right for criticizing the Left in an exaggerated way and then you flat out state that everyone on the Right is a Racist? Really? You actually believe that? How sad! You have any idea how sick and tired of that nonsense most people from any side are?

Pot meet Kettle

Both Parties are equally messed up and both sides sling mud like they have an endless supply. The truth? Most members of both sides are decent people. Both Parties work really hard at keeping the mud slinging going instead of working together and it is having a negative effect on our society. Those engaging in it are childish at best, often liars at worst and it does not matter which side you are on.

Keep it up and watch things get worse. Think for yourself and stop letting some politicians tell you what to think and say. We are all in the same boat together and both you and the people you are complaining about are about to sink it.

You want somebody to blame, look at your leaders. They are the ones feeding you this nonsense. Both Parties screwed this country up, not just one. Cut those marionette strings they super-glued to you and take a hard look around. You will find the Left and Right equally guilty and you may just find out just how few Racist's there really are and stop repeating the lie they spread to get votes.

Or are you just in the market for flags?

And once again the crazy people are those screaming the loudest...luckily in real votes they often don't do so well. Palin at 3%

Of course some media outlets don't bother reporting the truth and rather push their own twisted agenda

Love the post. I especially love conservatives who claim to worship such "great" Presidents like Ike and Theodore Roosevelt when in all actuality they would be decried as "socialists" and "left wing loony liberals" today. Abe Lincoln delivering the Emancipation Proclamation would be called a "violation of state's rights" The real Republican Party was headed by people such as Goldwater and Ike; realists who knew we had a responsibility to all citizens of the United States not just those who are lucky enough to have cash and health insurance.

Now there's Republicans out there pushing a repeal of the Civil Rights Act and repealing child labor laws. What the hell is wrong with you people who voted these folks in? Are you insane? Should a 12 year old be working in a factory for 10 cents an hour like the 20's?

It's ironic that the policies that idiot Republicans favour today are policies that would actually create the conditions that existed in the USSR.

"Give us more jobs!" -- put me to work, O state
"Everyone should be a Christian!" -- ban dissent, O state
"Don't punish the wealthy!" -- create a ruling caste, O state
"Democrats are the enemy of America!" -- allow only one party, O state

What do Democrats want? They want a managed democracy. They want a responsible Democracy. Now, some Republicans are going to come out and say PROGRESSIVES=NAZIS, but they are ignorant. Progressives believe in perpetual revolution. They, like Mao, like Robespierre and Jefferson, believe that revolution must be unceasing, and that the revolution must be secured by training the public to be good democrats. 'Indoctrination' (education, the mortal enemy of Theocrats) is meant to produce responsible and engaged citizens. The values of the citizens must be managed, so that they respect the general framework of a democratic society. The public must be groomed for democracy, they must be groomed for modernity. As well, the managed democracy actively roots out oppression. It targets the wealthy, it targets racists, it targets anyone who would exclude and disenfranchise someone else. It targets the kind of bigots who think that the 14th Amendment should be repealed so MEXICUNS can't STEAL MAH JERBS with their ANCHOR BAYBEES NURRRR.

What do the Republican theocrats say to this? "Fascism! This is fascism!! A true American values a strong state that enforces morality on everyone..."

What is the Republican ideal? A chaotic existence for the proletariat, with no recourse to officially sanctioned medicine, with no control over their reproduction, with no control over their own thoughts, and with the urgent, pressing demand to be enslaved, to be given work. What is the Republican ideal? A lower class that is in perpetual disarray, fighting amongst themselves so that it is easier for the massive and swollen state apparatus to manipulate them, so that it is easier for the privileged elites to control their human resources, their willing slaves.

Republicans say that progressives want to enslave everyone to the state, but I have seen the exact opposite in their emphasis on moral relativism and individual conscience, an emphasis that the 'Right' is suspiciously lacking. The so-called Progressives want a society in which all people, regardless of race, creed, sex, or sexuality, can participate as equal members of society. It is a form of equality that recognizes difference, as compared to the Republican ideal of equality; everyone is the same.

The Progressive motto could well be 'Diversity, our strength.' The Republican theocrat motto may as well be 'Join, or die.'

Anyone historically well-read enough to mention Robespierre, must less in a correct perspective, earns a star. Ten to one says 99% of Americans (and at least 80% of ATS'ers -- I'd like to hope our lot is more informed) could not tell you who he was.

Good thread. Ignorance is abundant in the political forums and subsequently in American society (regarding politics).

first, i find the "troll" label to be accurate. any time someone goes off half cocked ranting in incorrect (and so often fraudulent) vagueries, you're only real purpose is to spout off hate speech to either attempt to get others to say they agree, or to piss off those people you've decided in your own weakness to dislike so much, not productive, or intellectual.... thus troll...
second, and more importantly, looking at your list of "accomplishments," even if we pretend for a moment that all these are good things, you've completely ignored the cost of it all. including "loss of personal freedoms and property" you're so quick to mock. and lets not forget the american budget in all of this. the true cost for much of whats listed is not something we'll have to pay, instead our children are stuck with the bill

frankly, right now, conservatives, righties, and theocrats are left trying to pull away the incredible amount of damage done by excessive government (although it must be noted that republicans aren't without blame in this).

and finally, if you suspect that the change you toss in to a jar at the gas station or the billions our government hands out for research is really going toward curing diseases, making food better or safer, or really almost anything the average american would consider useful, then im sorry my friend but you are drowning in delusion.
american invention, american research, and useful american discovery has always been done almost entirely by the private sector. for example, a drug company might spend several billion on a specific drug for a single problem, it does this for the sake of profit. the government handing out 150 million to a nonprofit to research the ease of fish to swim upstream in rivers (its in the stimulus bill and this particular non profit had 7 members) isnt useful or profitable, but its a great way for congressmen to pass along a great deal of money to their friends.

oh and... the internet? did the ALGORE tell you that?
