A new poll is shocking the political powers in Washington with indication that only 3 in 10 members of the GOP believe that Barack Obama was born in the United States.

With the issue still disputed in a number of court cases and under review by nearly a dozen states considering laws that presidential candidates document their constitutional eligibility, the poll by Public Policy Polling found that only 28 percent of the Republicans surveyed believe Obama was born in the U.S. while 51 percent do not. Another 21 percent say they are not sure.

"Any thought that the birther theory has been put to rest can be thrown out the window," Dean Debnam, the president of the Democratic-leaning polling firm, told Politico. "That view is still widely held in Republican circles," he said. "That view is still widely held in Republican circles," he said.

Chris Matthews, host of "Hardball" on MSNBC, discussed the stunning poll numbers on his program tonight, perplexed by the growing tide of those questioning Obama's eligibility.

It was only a few months after Obama's inauguration that a WND/Wenzel Poll showed that 51.3 percent of Americans said they were aware of the questions raised about Obama's constitutional eligibility for office. Only 18.7 percent said they were not and another 30 percent were unsure. At that point, 58.2 percent of the GOP said they were aware of the controversy.

"While only 13 percent of Democratic Party supporters believe Obama was not born in the U.S., the proportion rises to 25 percent among independents and 51 percent among Republican Party backers," the report said.

I have to say the Mathews section is not bad-for discussion. Trust me, watch it. He appears to actually being a good reporter-yes I said it. He did a pretty good job-from a Liberals side-as you are gonna get. Of course, it makes the Repubs look pretty bad.

I will see if Fox or the alike do one from the Repubs side-but I doubt they will.

This is very interesting. No matter what you think don't you really want to see a long form Birth Certificate-signed by a doctor who was therer and witnesses etc? Would sure put things to rest if Obama would let them (questioners of his birth) have access. He is only making the wave against him larger-regardless if all a ruse.

This wouldn't die by making fun of US Citizens. Not with the numbers that are showing. Going to be very tough for Obama in 2012. I am starting to think he won't run? (kidding)

I think it is hilarious that the MSM is trying to prode the Repub Leaders to say what the people should think.

But again, from the Left side of this, Mathews did a good job to bring the story forward (or rather trying to stop the Birhters).

So seven out of ten GOP voters probably have trouble walking and breathing at the same time?

*Step* in, *Step* out, *Step* in, *step* out.

Still three in ten have some notion of how reality works. That's awesome. maybe in 20 or 30 years, the Republicans will be a national party again at that rate!

Born in Kenya or Hawaii...is NOT the USA therefore he is not American born.

Perhaps one or two of you are aware of the Hawaiian Constitution....

What is more important than where Obama is born is what do those behind the black curtain have on Obama that made him President in the first place. That, is what you need to worry about - and I have a feeling Emanuel is part of it.

His mother is an American citizen.

She could have been impregnated by a dolphin and given birth on mars, and US law would tell you, plain fact, that that horrible martian dolphin monstrosity is a natural-born American citizen.

Even if it has brown skin.

If his mother had her son naturalized in the USA (not Hawaii) then I don't see a problem

like i've been saying since, like, he was elected, there is PROOF he was kenyan born, it dates back to 2004 WELL prior to his presidency. no fox news retard will disuade me from stating this FACT

have a nice day

ed: there is of course the issue "what if, he was born on a family holiday?" but he has had the oppourtunity to explain himself legitimatly. that time is now over.

Sorry to disapoint you but when I lived in Hawaii it was part of the United States. And if all they need is a long form birth certificate as proof then he has 2 years to get one.

Got anything besides elitist insults and playing the race card to help make your case?

And if Republicans have to wait "20 or 30 years to be a national party again", what does that say about the dems now?

Which party kicked the dems a$$ last November?

Which party was it then that turned obowma from being a hard left socialist into a Reagan wannabe (wearing a cowboy hat
for God's sake)?

20 or 30 years? Sorry to break it to you, but the future is now ...

Actually, Hawaii really is an independant nation and Americans are occupiers of Hawaii. My bet is not one single American knows about the Hawaiian Constitution and most hardly know Hawaii's history. As a NZ born Australian, I do.

So, what do the real natives of NZ and Australia think of you and your presence there?

As an "occupier"?

Just curious ...

No Hawaii is a state. I had to take Hawaiian history in high school. Yes Hawaii still has a royal family but they gave all that up to become a state. Now they want it back. So as of 1959 Hawaii is a state of the US.

The Hawaiian Royals did NOT give it up at all. See, as a South Pacific Island nation, what you are taught and what I was taught in school differs. The very thing we learnt was the Constitutions of all pacific neighbours and Hawaii was included.

I'll find you the link in a couple of days and you'll learn something you did'nt know before.

What is most interesting about the obama story is the (likely accurate) notion that he was hand-picked, groomed, trained and vetted by the CIA since he was an adolescent.

Reportedly (no I don't have links now), the obama was chosen as an adolescent by the CIA and the U. S. intelligence community because he had the potental to fit into any "legend" or role they wanted him to play in pretty much any country. He could have gone anywhere in the world and potentially become a mole or a spy or an excellent "contolled asset."

I'm willing to be money he speaks more than one language fluently.

their gambit paid of really well, I would say.

And don't forget the universal language of submission.

Bowing to everyone obowma considers to be superior to himself.

Guess your ancestors were "lucky" to have survived the guns and the germs brought by the occupiers of NZ and Australia then.

You still got the point of my earlier post. Just about everyone is an "occupier" of the current land they stand on.

This one just showed up on Drudges page (Top row, right side).

I'll telling you, this thing is growing, not going away.

I think Obama better come up with a better way of handling this.

Regardless of the people political affilations, they are still voters and he will need everyone (vote) he can get-if he runs.

He didn't win with just Dem votes (with Independents).
