Massive Hidden Object in our Solar Neighborhood

news.blogs.cnn.com

You know how you sometimes can sense that something is present even though you can't see it? Well, astronomers are getting that feeling about a giant, hidden object in space.

And when we say giant, we mean GIANT.

Evidence is mounting that either a brown dwarf star or a gas giant planet is lurking at the outermost reaches of our solar system, far beyond Pluto. The theoretical object, dubbed Tyche, is estimated to be four times the size of Jupiter and 15,000 times farther from the sun than Earth, according to a story in the British paper The Independent.

ummm OMG. Not to alarm anyone, and this may be reposted from others. I think it is definitely worth a discussion. Thoughts? The story is from CNN who definitely fact checks their stories. This massive object has a 27 million year orbit outside of pluto. Is this an Intelligent Craft from other beings? Or just a big hunk of gases and rocks? Either way quite amazing. 2012?

is it really any suprise? havent we been discussing the posibility that there was a huge planetary body on the cusp of our solar system for years? even nasa said years ago that this was the case then pooh poohed it, now they are saying "oh wait actually".....now apparently this large planet is a sun...so maybe this is the reason for all our planets heating up and that planet (forget which one) turning red....who knows but nothing i wasnt expecting.

Tyche is different from the other proposed planets that were hypothesized to be past Neptune. The original Planet Xs were hypothesized to exist due to missing gravity that was eventually explained by Voyager. The other major hypothesis was Nemesis, which was used to explain the orbit of comets from the Oort Cloud. This hypothesis has lost a lot of support though. The Tyche hypothesis is a completely different entity than has been hypothesized in the past. To finish I have one question.

Where are you getting that Tyche is actually a star?

A new world? Astronomers believe a huge gas giant may be within the remote Oort Cloud region

Isolated: The Oort Cloud, where Tyche is believed to be, is a sphere with a radius of one light year

This would be great if they infact do find another Planet, looking forward to hearing more about this in the future, the above graphics are interesting, of course they are guessing.

Assuming the calculations and theory are correct, and there really is an object at the stated location, its very unlikely that it is a normal star or even a failed star (a brown dwarf). The object is believed to have a mass of four times that of Jupiter. That is too little for anything other than a planet. A brown dwarf's minimum mass is about 13 times that of Jupiter, and even a very small normal star is much more massive than that, about 87 times the mass of Jupiter, or more. Ross
