83 ft/sec (57 mph). The article you cite from discovery is a terrible summary of the experiment. Helmholtz was a genius and calculated this number in the 1800s and has since been proven he was very close with current technology. He discovered more important scientific knowledge than you even know about. Helmholtz discovered conservation of energy, the trichromatic theory of vision, the blindspot of the eye and much more. He was a genius and anyone who denies this is ignorant. His experiment was genius in discovering how fast nerve impulses travel. Don't listen to the discovery article; it contains very little facts. I'm a psychology major and just learned all about helmholtz in a senior level class on the history of psychology.

Speed of thought is can try to be measured scientifically but it's being effected constantly by variable change.

Which variables?

I cannot list them all because without a controlled environment it would be practically impossible.

But think about influence alone.

Each thought is a self-contained cycle of time, layers of thoughts are multidimensional time.
