Irony, stupidity and the difficulty in detecting the difference

I have sometimes missed the irony. And you put it very diplomatically but sometimes I get the impression that it is just irony/sarcasm for the sake of it. Some posters prefer to make sarcastic comments instead of writing something substantial. I have nothing against an occasional barb or sharp remark but there should be a focus on the substance of the discussion.
