While Crye has come out with some fantastic things I doubt that this will go far. I've spent my whole career in the grunts and this will not make my life easier, it's gonna screw up my perphial(sp) vision and I won't be able to spot threats as easy.

Actually there is a move on to deny vets access to firearms and "other" weapons upon theri return to CONUS...THATS a scary trend

A visit to an armor museum will demonstrate that there are old patterns of armor that especially today with lighter materials could find usage.

There were throat protectors, and they basically fit on the shoulders and rose up underneath the helmet.

The vent is a good idea, as long as they have a lip to deflect a bullet up and out through the top of the helmet.

Now imagine a soldier that had laminate lightweight (kevlar/titanium/kevlar thigh protectors that had a sharp 45-degree angle to deflect bullets, and greaves made of the same laminated material that rose above the knee, overlapping the thigh protectors.

I'm sure it's all coming, but they really should protect the side of the neck a bit more.

It's well documented in historical accounts that one of the main requirements for becoming a Spartan was that they all be involved in same sex relationships with their fellow soldiers, or they were not allowed to join. This may require a few cultural changes in modern armies, although fortunately a certian proportion would meet this criteria.

I think that Crye probably designed the "chops" with Peripherals in mind. Looking at the helmet from the side, I think that as far as eyesight is concerned, there is very little degradation. The only down side is the ear covering. Without wearing one, I would not know how much of a loss a person would have with those coverings.

The design itself is not bad, and would add a certain fear factor to the wearer. Imagine a fully armed soldier wearing a helmet like this. It would be a sight to strike fear in an enemy.

I do agree sir In Korea 1986 as 19Ds ,the moment we cleared the garrison those plastic buckets went into our packs and we donned boonies so we could hear.

Doesn't matter where they come from, helmets aren't designed to be bulletproof, they're designed to protect against secondary fragmentation & shrapnel...I think It'll do well in that role if it works as advertised. It has to be comfortable as well, if its not...guys won't wear it. The problem with the "brain buckets" when I was in was trying to shoot in the prone while wearing one.

That is so true, when I got my new one it is better than the old kpot, but could still be improved. In fact last qual, my LT would fire a round then have to readjust his helmet. LOL that was humorous, it made my wish I had a video camera at the time.

I still can full body flexible armor in the near future, especially with the advances in nanotech etc.

Don't worry they made it modular to have the added ear cover protection. As you will see the pics below that includes it if military personnel don't like wearing the chops.

Here are more pics. With this design and the materials to resist 7.62 rounds, it definitely help evolved the military helmets.

They thought that they fixed the firing prone issue by seperating the neck guard into 2 pieces at the back. Allowed the material to seperate when you lifted your head.....in theory.

Correct and so would a 'cool' mirror-like visor.

In my opinion a solder, even operating in today's electronic and gadget-filled battlefield, needs all his or her senses. Covering the eyes and ears do little to enhance the so called sixth sense soldiers develope on operations.
