One thing that stands out a bit is that the audio is slightly slowed down. By 5-10% maybe. That can happen sometimes in the encoding process. I am not sure what the original video format was.

Good point, Didnt noticed that at all until you pointed that out. Could that mean that video is slowed down as well? The first part of the video seems normal sound wise, until about 1/4 of the way through, then...Like you said appears slowed down slightly. Either that or being in their 50's does that to you.
OR they are hippies hitting the nitrous oxide while watching it!

Can you explain why makes you certain that it is not a sun dog?

I am not certain that it is and it may very well not be, but you do seem as though you have absolute evidence that there is no way that this could not be the answer. Can you please elaborate on the information you have that brings you to this conclusion?

thanks in advance

Really, what makes you so sure?

Why don't you focus on answering our questions first, before you start spouting off more one liners that don't contribute anything.

We are talking about a little rural county here. This is not the work of hoaxers, I can 99% guarantee this.

A sundog? Does this actually, really look like a sundog to you? I am not (yet) speculating on what this actually is necessarily -- I am simply stating what it clearly isn't - unless you can help enlighten me with your Sun Dog expertise.

This is clearly a video taken right off the highway. I know this, because I live in this exact area.

The only other video from the same YouTube member, from the same morning, entitled "Fog coming in again.":

With the comment "Here it comes again! LOL!" by the author in description.

I think we are looking at some sort of area of fog or sea mist caught in an upstream when it comes in off the ocean caught in sunlight from that viewpoint.

I'd wager the same thing would happen again if given the same meteorological circumstances.

Love to hear other theories though.

Dude. You posted that the object was, to you, identifiable.

Well, three of us asked for you to perhaps, elaborate on what you think it is.

And who the hell starred your "wat" reply to me? Try reading the thread through before throwing random stars up people.

I just don't understand how you can be 99% certain that this is not the work of hoaxers, with little to no research on this video. What makes you believe this? Because they live in a rural area?

I never ever ever implied that I have any expertise in SunDogs, in fact I stated that it very well may not be and furthermore stated I have no good idea what it is.

However, you seem certain that you can confirm this is not a sundog. I am simply asking you how can you be certain? What information do you have that makes you absolutely, beyond a shadow of a doubt certain about this?

I am not trying to be confrontational, so please don't take it that way. I sincerely want to know how you could possibly know the things you have stated so far in this thread? Also, why do you think that I contain any expertise on the SunDog phenomena, did I imply that somewhere? If so, I will try harder not to infer such things in the future.

Personally, Until there is more evidence to conclude otherwise...I do not believe that this a hoax. I am only going off my gut feeling of these people. They have been on youtube now since 2008, and just two videos. None of their videos seems edited digitally at all. They sounded like those type of older church members you might bump into at your local market on a sunday, or those types that just like to travel and tape there vacations. I mentioned earlier that I thought they were between late 40's and 50's. There age on the channel says 51. My gut feeling is the basis that it is not a hoax video. They seem more astonished than anything and basically remind me of my Grandparents.

I agree, it doesn't seem like it is a hoax, just don't really know what it could be. Would be nice to have some good ideas of what it could be, then maybe we could try to identify it as one of them. I just have nothing to compare it to, other than the SunDog idea and I really don't think it is that either.

I sent them a message on YouTube and hopefully at somepoint tomorrow will get a response. I basically asked them to describe the exact area, time of morning, things they heard, seen, and what they thought it might have been.

You might consider asking them to come to ATS and possibly describe the event, in this thread you started. Would definitely be a +, regardless of what they share or how telling it is. At least there would be more progress toward a explanation.

Mendocino County, especially along Highway 1 which I believe this was taken, though I may be wrong, is notorious for tourism, in fact most of the county relies mostly on tourism. The age you speculated on fits the "ratio" of which I speak of.

Also I apologize for coming off dogmatic at all, but the likelihood of footage in my area of this caliber is very intriguing to me. I'm also not a sun dog specialist, nor can I prove that it isn't a hoax. But I can say that my area is notorious for tourism, and our roads are filled with people parked on the side of our highways, taking videos of our lucky scenery.

So eh, I don't know if it is a sun dog of which you speak actually. But I have researched "UFO"s for quite some time, and the way these lights move in full screen with HD included I would have to say this is a very peculiar instance.

As per my knowledge, Sun Dogs do not typically fracture into multiple pinpoints of light, reform, and move around. They're usually fixed horizontally equidistant from both sides of the sun.

With that said, I'm not convinced you're looking at a UFO either. It seems the "object(s)" are reflecting light, rather than producing it. It seems the individual that mentioned fighter jets flying in formation has the most logical idea.

Hmm, interesting.

Having a closer look, it seems that at points during the video, amongst the light, a small dark area can be seen. This could be anything, maybe even over exposure if it is reflected light from a plane.

Here's some images with blown up sections of the "UFO":

Maybe it is a group of helicopters flying towards the camera, with each helicopter's light coming into view as it gets closer to the camera. Then they turn, make a straight formation, and go back the way they came, thus creating the effect that the multiple lights unite into one light. Finally, the light disappears as they are going away from the camera and too far for the camera to pick up.

Thoughts???

not a sun dog

CGI is likely the culprit

audio taken from this video and slowed down.
