I have no idea, but I do know this much. Anyone who wanted to carry out a terrorist attack in the USA (or pretty much anywhere else) could do so
quite easily. I'm not talking on the scale of 9/11, but it would be awfully easy to make some small bombs at home and take them to a crowded
shopping mall or a school and kill dozens. If you count some of the mass shootings as terrorist activity, like that recent one where a judge and
politician in the States were shot by Jared Loughner, it's even easier; all you need is a gun and a head start.
So whatever the reasons, it's definitely not because it isn't easy. Maybe the terrorists aren't willing to risk their lives anymore? There are a
lot of things I'm really angry about in this world, but I'm not going to kill anybody over them; maybe the terrorists are becoming less fanatical?
Maybe they are taking their fights to other locations? Places like Iraq and Afghanistan still have terrorist attacks frequently. Supplies might be
more difficult to obtain in those countries, but the pervading atmosphere is one where it is easier to get away with such things. If someone blew up
a school in the USA, there would be a national investigation, and they'd probably find out who did it. If someone did the same in Afghanistan, they
might not get caught.
