If you where a bit more careful, or knowledgeable, you would see I'm posting from Lisbon/Sintra, Portugal. So, I am not "up There". To you, I am "down here"...I also know your "lovely" country, and most of Europe, Asia, and North America...

As for your political views: we would only have the same enemies if I where to become my own enemy...

I'm not a couch-potato, in the habit of giving opinions about things I know nothing about

interesting word xenophobia it would sound more like the the original poster calling American's stupid and what not then me defending what my own country used to stand for. You might also want to take a look at it's definition lol pot meet kettle. Ps why dont you just stop crying over your poster boy julian assange he's not dead and most likely he will get off. I don't agree with my governments actions against him but i do believe his actions warrants Espionage charges. The real question is did he sell you down the river after he turned himself in? How many files are coming out lately? And isn't it weird that some of the new files are on other countries manly from the middle east? He's a tool. Used to propagate lies for our own government that seem credible because these same files made us look bad so if they say some country is doing something real bad besides us you will take it hook line a sinker. Face it we had professional spys trying to get our stuff during the cold war and they failed a lot of the time what makes you think this jerk off forest gumped his way into all these files lol grow up its not that easy.

This is one of the first times I have found myself agreeing with WalkingFox. Great post about the buckleheads.

For those who are getting upset, ask yourself if you really believe America is what it should be, or if it has become a travesty of freedom. Are you free to do what you want, so long as it harms no one else?

For me, i try to not be too nationalistic. I keep in mind the words of Ben Franklin: "Where liberty dwells, there is my country." That is some sound advice.

My 2c. I could always tell a "foreign" film from an American film by the way the human body and its functions were treated as natural, not to be hidden from view or giggled at as an adolescent. When my father came home from serving in the Army in Europe in WW2, he told us tales about seeing nude/topless sunbathers, from children to grandmothers, something not seen here. His father was of a generation that even kept the medical books at home locked up!

Hollywood, following the culture, never could capture the naturalness of the human body or its functions, keeping it as something "dirty" to be hidden, or the exact opposite, portraying it too often as the "forbidden fruit", with an emphasis on the pornographic. American movies were the "dirty magazine" hidden under the bed of a male adolescent.

Heck, American missionaries saw fit to clothe with whomever they came into contact, covering the newly converted head to toe as a proper (New Englander) American.

Hope this helps to enlighten. Not insane, just prudish.

makes me think about those islamists that may not drink alcohol etc etc but when they make big fiesta in private parties lots of it is flowing ..... why they do that ? because they feel they are protected, they feel they are " more " than normal people, they will not get into trouble .... they want to feel "free" but normal people may not !!
just sick making laws !! just the powers in place with their oppressive and hypocritical " laws " ....
Just happy the whole system up there ( North Africa ) is blowing in the wind !!!

just let's hope they will not go the iranian way ..... after the Shah you got the religious fools !!!

If memory serves me, the 1979 Iranian revolution was as much a protest against Western culture being imposed as against national economic wealth not benefiting everyone. Back then many cultures resisted becoming Westernized, taken over/measured by foreign values and daily way of life. For many, the antidote for this devaluation/alienation of culture was a turn to religious fundamentalism.

Truth be told, even the United States turned to religious fundamentalism. The world in general seemed to turn this way.

What is happening in Egypt and elsewhere is not this type of anti-Western uprising. People are tired of govt corruption and of their inability to be better off amidst national economic wealth.

Not all Islamists are fundamentalists. Yes, self righteousness should be avoided.

most americans are very programmed.. our conditioning here is very different than most (well i really can't say most but the other countries i at least have spent time in at least).

most americans have never been outside of the U.S. so they do not even realize that people live differently in other countries. and on top of that they think that america and the american way is superior, but this is very much a part of the conditioning.

i lived in europe during college. i had no clue about programming, no clue about conditioning back then but i still knew (felt) that there was something different about the people in europe. they were happ(ier) and free(er) in a way. i still today talk about it all of the time to anybody who will listen. they were focused much more on enjoying life and each other than work work work work work and out-doing each other.

when i came home i said i was not going to lose that, i really saw it as a gift. i said that i was not going to fall back into the american way. (where life and people and everything is taken way tooo seriously). it took only a couple of months and i was back.. at the time (in college) i just said well that kinda sucks, but today, knowing what i know about programming and conditioning, it is something that is much much deeper.

Most Europeans have never been off their continent either. To visit another country, they only need to travel a short distance. Similar to visiting another state in the US.

And I think you will find that the cultural differences between Euro countries is not that great, after all.

In the US there are large cultural differences between the various regions...east coast, west coast, south, industrial belt, etc.

There are reasons for that. The most obvious one is size. How many Euro countries have populations of 300million +, and areas of almost 4 million square miles?

Then comes global presence. The US is by far the most burdened nation on earth. Name one Euro country that equals us in military presence and responsibility.

When some geo-political problem crops up, does the world look to Romania or Switzerland to respond? Not hardly.

It is precisely the fast-paced culture of the US that allows smaller, weaker nations to live less pressured lives.
