Well I found a site that lets you take control of those crazy expensive telescopes and the other night I was finally able to log onto the free telescope (g3). The free trial account is good for about 3 pictures.

Using this telescope (Takahashi TOA-150 - 1100mm):

Here is their wiki page and also other telescopes available for use (with membership though):

With the trial account you get to select from a list of galaxies/areas. If you have a regular account though, you can look anywhere you want (or enter in co-ords).

(all of the pictures below were shot tonight)
+right click image -> open in new tab if you want full picture, since ats cuts the right side off

ones i took:

that is cool , i loved astronomy ever since i was a child and had my first telescope when i was 10 ( a present from my mother ) and thinking of buying one now , but are you really sure these pictures are taken from a $25000 + ? because those pictures are not that good , now if this is what im going to get from less than $4000 or less quality then im going to forget about it.

any way thanx for sharing this with us S&F

With the trial account you dont get the high resolution or raw files.

very nice! thats pretty awesome! i wish the telescope though, had the option to use an O III filter, or skyglow or H alpha filters. WOnder what jupiter saturn and mars lok ike through it! Also the ability to use high power eyepieces...typically a telescope coms wih a 24mm eyepiece. the lwer the mm the more closer and detail the object shows, which does require fine tuning of the eyepice...but still! very beutiful pictures

I also forwarded the link to my brother and my dad, the're also into astronomy and would very much like to have pictures that they took themselves off these telescopes.

S&F for you

Thats cool. I suspected such sites existed.

Im lucky, my uncle has this insane 8 foot high telescope with 24 inch mirror at the bottom. The whole thing swivels like butter, smooth, and when you stop it, it stops right where you want it. A little nudge moves it slightly. very nice. I cant think of the name of it, but there are only 10 in private hands in Canada!

More on topic, I will leave link open as I have to run off to work, but I will definitately check it out later. Ill post my pics too

Ill post the name of telescope later if anyones interested.

How do I know that its not pre made pictures and a big scam ? there is no proof of camera control.. except for the random system info text, with could be faked also

Ok I better reply to this bit a rubbish. No offence meant to any here...but.

GRAS has been providing online access to research grade telescopes to its thousands of users since 2002.
We are real and we are serious. With the amount of hard work and close to 2 million dollars invested we dont take kindly to suggestions that we "fake" our images in any way. The fine images you see posted here are taken LIVE and not always perfect. Indeed I helped some of the users from ATS with support while online by suggesting they not image close to a bright Moon. You can see that some of these images have lower contrast than the later ones posted here by Jason. The moon was much lower at that time.

We offer GRAS-003 with free public access as an outreach service and take great pleasure in bringing astronomy to the public this way. No Scams. Just the Stars.

More information on GRAS here.
www.global-rent-a-scope.com...

My thanks to all.

I get pics like that all the time. You don't need $25,000 to do it. I do 99% visual, cause if I want to look at pics of objects, there's plenty online. I prefer to see with my eyes, not through the camera.

When I do hook up the camera to my scope, my pics are as good as those. BUT that is a very cool service to someone without access to a large scope, or if you live in a light polluted area.

Here's my biggest, the Celestron C6
