Haha

I have no problems with memes, but I see people abusing them on this forum and this is a place for intellectual discussion and 9/10 times you're not going to get any lulz from posting memes on this board, unless you enjoy trolling yourself.

That's why I ask that people kind of cut back on the use of them, around here. The T&C even says to make use of statements such as LOL and ROFL lightly, I'd assume it's the same with memes.

no I agree, it comes across as very simplistic here - especially when I see people who've obviously just joined use them and think they are on their average ebaums world forum.

The one thing I praise about ATS is it's separation of itself from the rest of the forums that cater to the controversial. And it irks me no end to see people get away with it in the improper areas.

BTS, Rant, General chit chat, imo, fine...

but in threads where people are making a solid attempt to contribute, there's enough people making a mockery of that that we don't need people posting "FAIL" and the sorts..

On a separate note, have you notice that FAIL has now become embraced by the common media? I don't mean your CNN or FOX, or whathave you, I mean typical journos... that really irks me.. A very small segment of the internet that has done as much harm as good has actually influenced our lexicon... insane.

I also fail to get how people can say "I look up to anon, they are awesome.." - an opinion I saw expressed here on ATS. It is NOT an organisation, it is the basic definition of anarchy. Look at all the hate the newfs spread. Attacking people on facebook, youtube, twitter, etc...

Only people who really want a cause, force themselves to believe this 'anon' is a self governed organisation with their best interest at heart.

Lol

So indeed I agree with you. not only here but everywhere really, people using memes..

makes me wanna

RAGE ON THEM SOMETIMES... Oo

to add to the point the recent attack on HBGary and Aaron Barr, was probably executed by serveral members,
i have been following Anonymous and i support their actions...

(the politically active anonymous.. per se)

but when you know what it take to compromise an entire network and the recon it takes to do so, and the organization of serveral skilled hackers to come together to own a network, and the years it takes to learn such skills, its quite inspiring... i also do agree that if they really wanted to keep their momentum, and their reputation up, they will have to step up to larger targets...

i recently read about the attempts on the NASDAQ servers in new york, which didn't mention anonymous at all, lets not be fooled here... they are not the only hackers out there, some hack for malicious intent, Data manipulation, and intel gathering on foriegn countries, Seems China has had us the US targeted for quite sometime, not much gets said about these activities...

Hahahaha Arron Barr had to unplug his home router cause they were hitting him at his house...

now thats serious....

Another poster beat me to it, but yeah...

You know what's impotent about your statement? You clearly don't even know what a DoS attack is in comparison to a DDoS - they are extraordinarily different.

I suggest you do your research on the subject matter before propagating non-sense about something you clearly have no understanding about.

I'm sure he'll dedicate himself to the task

... I wish people saw more than what 'anon' does for them.. who can forget boxy. Sure, we know we know, but that sheeets enough to make people suicide.

visit /b/ any time of the day and see raids in action, just twits on facebook or whatnot..

It's a game, and the game is played by everyone and everyone has different intentions.. as long as NYPA fails to apply they're in... 90% of the 'good causes' would be null if it werent for the luls..

No, I understand what you're saying. How is it that you know DoS and DDoS tools are easy to find and anyone can use them?

Because if that was the case, I have a feeling your computer would probably not be running right now, neither would mine.

LOIC?

Well thats one tool, harmless in and of itself, but globally, WHAM!

ICMP and DDoS tools are exceptionally easy to find. The major difference in "ease of use" is generally that DOSing requires a bit of knowledge of IP's and packets. DDoSing during an "operation" is purely a point and click, copy paste venture.

But the clients to do either are readily available to anyone with Google.

Man these newbies hey.. lol.. back in my day, I had to write my own OOB nuker to drop people off the interwebs..

Oh we had so much fun in IRC...

port 139, i love you windows...

anyway, you're dead on - download, add IP click. get caught, go to jail for 20 years cry. claim you didn't know, spend $500,000 proving it, fail. end up a 40 year old hacker in the media.
WIN!

I can't recall if I've ever used "Fail", either in writing or just talking with other people....but I'm sure I have on occasion, and it feels tempting oftentimes. When "journos" use it, is it tongue-in-cheek? Do you have any examples you can cite from memory?

meh.

Just like a real force. Not everyone can lead, or be special forces, or drive a tank. A majority of people will be meat shields for the specialists.

Happens everywhere, from the armed forces throughout time, down to American Football.

Totally agree with you

I'm sure the Anonymous architects/concept/idea/movement creators knew this, but I also believe they foresaw that out of those meat shields (per se), some survivors with the experience gained from "the last battle", would hone their skills therefore rising up in the ranks and maybe splintering all over the world to "drive their on tanks" in their neck of the woods to plow TPTB.
This is my personal point of view and I totally respect what Anonymous has become and Am amazed at the fact that the more media coverage they get, the more "meat shields" want to join the ranks inspired and tired of the way the world is run by all these motley fools.

Anonymous does not care for it's association with 4 Chan.

Not really saying you should be against or for Anonymous, simply stating the fact that you don't know what you're talking about and neither do your friends.

These "anoymous" group is ridiculous because they only have one tool at their disposal kiddie/baby DDOS attack things.

All it does is bring down a server system, it doesn't even affect your or mine computers. I bet even if I go to a public internet cafe with my laptop and have the entire collective of "anon" around me that they could not even get access to my laptop, even while on the same wi-fi network.

This is not hacking, all they are doing is running some botnet with ip spoofing and they think they are hacking the NSA secure servers. Amateurs.

All they do is affect large servers and it doesn't affect the individual end user really. The attack on the MPAA, I was pleasant about because I am not a fan about them. Their attacks are not sophisticated enough to elicit a "wow" they did that.

If it affects the individual user of a computer system, then I will have a certain beef with them.

Does ATS allow 4Chan as a source, or a link to 4Chan when creating a thread ? I could have sworn that years ago, when I was really active on ATS that it was not allowed b/c they aren't considered a credible source. I am not familiar w/4chan and wondered if, in your opinion, do you consider 4Chan to NOT be a credible source for any information & would you recommend or not recommend spending any time on the site?
