Right. They have to get off to justify the punishment to the girl. The logic is that the girl led the innocent men astray. It isn't "rape" it is some kind of temptress/siren thing, and the men are of course entirely innocent to the wily powers of a sensuous adolescent.

If they punished the men, it would ruin the whole argument.

That's just not true.

As it has already been said, mistakes have been made, but they were corrected quickly. The witch trials were over in a relatively short time period, and they might have been caused by a hallucinogenic mold in the first place, but the point is we aren't still doing it.

And, not all backwards places have any resources. Maybe the government wants their oil, but those of us condemning this action could care less what country it was in, or what resource that country has, our concern is for the girl.

As for rape victims having to defend themselves in court, it is difficult, but appropriate. The court is looking at taking away the freedom of a person for many, many years, so they want to be sure it isn't just some jaded ex-girlfriend or scared girl that doesn't want Daddy to know. We are not publicly stoning the girl! We are only vetting her story before we lock someone away for a couple of decades!

The crime was adultry, the justification was an accusation and the ruling by tribal court an illegal Fatwa/Sharia Law. That's all it takes as long as no one is willing to challenge the tribal court/ruling cleric.
