i think you'll have to start another account, i know we dont change names.

but others have created new names and the other name was ditched later.

this is whats happened in the past and i cant do this for you...someone above me has to do it.

i do think you'll need another email address to do this though as the one you have for your current user name cant be used for the second one...but i think once the second is created you can change the email address once the other name is "closed" or deleted or something.

just wait for a hgiher up to see this thread or you can U2U a super mod admin or anyone like that and they can help you i think.

It is not possible for the username of an account to be altered. This isn't because we are being difficult, but because the username is what identifies your account with the message board, it's a primary database key.

If you want a different name then you must open a new account. To do this you will also need a different e-mail account. ATS does not allow registrations to take place from people providing an e-mail address from a "free" account.

We do not make any exceptions on this, security being at the top of the long list of reasons.

Not strictly related to dave1812's problem, just something Simon's reply brought to mind.

I very nearly didn't register at ATS because of the requirement to provide my "real" addy, the one I only give out to close friends. I use webmail [not the dreaded hotmail or yahoo] as I value my privacy. I'm glad I joined though after deciding to trust their po;icies.

You do have the option to hide your e-mail address from within the Control Panel.

By activating this feature, only admin and senior staff can access it.

We take security and personal data integrity very highly, and take all possible measures to safeguard your information.

Hi dave1812!!

So, *what's* "wrong" with your user name? Seems decent enough to me?? Welcome to ATS, incidentally - I'm sure you will find it a fantastic on-line community!!

Thank you Simon - that was the first thing I checked out in Control Panel [as usual whenever I've joined a board - who says I'm paranoid!]

My obscenely short lurking period convinced me that this is a very well run board whose policies I could trust, and this opinion hasn't altered.

Well, there is a way to change a username, just with one line of RAW MySQL to be entered in the update fucntion. The thing is, ats is so heavily modified, I doubt it would work, it would probably screw something up.
