Did Christina Aguilera screw up the National Anthem on purpose?

Cristina Aguilera sang the National Anthem at Superbowl XLV yesterday, well, she attempted to.

She sang : "What so proudly we watched..."

Instead of :O'er the ramparts we watched.. Here's a clip.



Homeland Security was there this year, patting down fans as they entered the stadium. Looking for, apparently, brown men from caves, disguised as fat white drunk men with their faces painted blue or green, sometimes wearing a foam cheese hat.

I guess the mission was a success. No one blew themselves up at the superbowl. Unlike past superbowls where folks just blow themselves up.....wait, wait...wtf

Anyways. I think Cristina Auguilara or however you spell her name, was told to replace those lyrics. Just a nice subtle slap in the face to all the americans "proudly watching" something that has no meaning at all. "Green Bay Won it all!!!! Whoopee!!! Awesome!!! My team rocks!!!" SO WHAT?!! It will start again, another season, another superbowl, another winner, and plenty of commercials to remind you that bud light is the best thing ever and to sell you more crap that you do not need.

It reminds me of Wal-Marts clothing line "Faded Glory" with the logo of an American Flag.

What do you guys think?

Nah, she just [SNIP] it up.
Not the first time that a celebrity [SNIP] the anthem, it happens a lot of times, it happens everywhere in the world. I've seen that at a lot of events, for example here in germany (Well most people don't even know the complete anthem, there was once some years ago a case where some tv stations showed the banned second verse on TV, it caused a lot of trouble). Same happens with those singers at their concerts, how many times can a singer not remember the lines to his songs? I've seen that happen a lot of times and i doubt there's any conspiracy behind it, but rather it's stage fever or drunk/drugged. Same case at the SuperBowl - Black Eyed Peas also [SNIP] their half-time show

Besides if it was some conspiracy they would've done it more subtle and not butcher the whole anthem

I actually think she has messed the national anthem up on 2 or 3 occasions.
She sucks at it anyway.
Why not just get someone with a good voice to sing the actual notes without all the extra nonsense.

I think she has a great voice but I do agree she totally screwed that anthem up. Way too much turkey gobble, especially at the end.

Maybe we should just have children sing the national anthems because when they mess it up it isn't a big deal. It's then considered cute.

It was only a matter of time before this was posted.

Why would you waste my time with this?
Yes there is a lyrics list of words that make up the anthem.
The singer in question blew it.
Many people blow these same words that should be easier for any US American to rattle off than the ABC's.
Just a sign of the times is all this is.
And shame on anyone who produces offspring that does not know and understand their history.
Now let's move on to the real newsworthy things, like people crying and dying for someone elses greed.

I'm European and watched the superbowl for the first time. That was the most boring minutes of my life. How the hell can your brain tolerate so many advertising breaks in such a shot period of time ? That was a joke, seriously, every five minutes "let's have a little break"...

Back to the topic : C.A has never been and will most probably never be a politically comitted singer. In my opinion she just screwed things up, or her brain was reduced to purée by one of the 74 advertising breaks.

Didn't even know it was on until today. Wouldn't have watched it even if I knew it was on. Was far too happy with our result against Chelsea to care about other things

Yes. She did do it on purpose. She was in fear that if she sang all of the words correctly, then someone here on ATS would start a thread about it. Everyone would then dissect every frame of the footage. Thus her lip synching would be exposed. She still was lip synching, but because of the pre-recorded error within the words, nobody is aware of it. That's what I am assuming anyways. Pure speculation.

Give me a break. She is told what to sing & what to wear. Not to mention the song in question was lip synched.
