TA-ATTACKS: Car Bombing at Iraq's Green Zone; 10 Dead

The Green Zone, former headquarters of Coalition military and current location of the US and British Embassies in Iraq, has been rocked by a car bomb exploding at its main entrance. The blast occured at 9:20am local time. At least 10 Iraqis are believed dead and more than 40 injured. Seven of the fatalities are Iraqi civilians; the other three are National Guardsmen.
One US soldier is believed to be among the injured.

The explosion appeared to originate in a parking lot outside the guarded entrance to the complex. Black smoke can be seen billowing high into the air over the city.

In addition to the Embassies, the area also contains Baghdad's convention center, Iraqi diplomatic headquarters, and the al Rasheed hotel.

According to MSNBC, Iraqi police Col. Majid Abdel Hamid mentioned that the car was packed with 1,000 lbs of explosives.
Car bomb blast rocks central Baghdad Several other blasts occurred throughout the day. Another blast injured 3 Iraqis.
