Here we go, they are stepping up attempts to "fix" the internet. This is bad news.

Yes I agree something needs to be done about people who maliciously spread viruses, but it seems to be nothing more than a smokescreen in order to impose tighter controls on everyone, including people who do not partake in illegal activites. As usual the only people who will suffer are the innocent, because of paranoid control freaks.

Are these two separate groups? Or is it that they don't really know who it is?

Also, the Zeus (also known as Zbot, PRG, Wsnpoem, Gorhax and Kneber) is a keylogging Trojan.

Some claim it is a tool for stealing banking information.

Either way, it's presence hardly constitutes an "attack". It's more of a theft attempt.

Or has the definition of Zeus changed?

Besides, the infection incident he references happened a year ago, whereas the BBC article headline seems designed to imply that this is an emergent situation..... for shame BBC.... for shame.

The easiest way to prevent these attacks is to just cut off China from the internet. China has more people in there cyber warfare division then the US has in it's armed forces.

Easiest maybe, but definitely not the most intelligent. If China was cut off from the internet, how do you think they would react? I am pretty sure they would not be impressed.

I completely agree. Its stupid. They are using flimsy excuses in order to push their agenda forward. Lets hope that some people with brains speak up and put a stop to this.

is it possible to cut off China from electricity? probably not unless you war your way in. the same situation with Internet. other countries probably can only firewall incoming Chinese traffic blocking themselves away from China- kind of like locking themselves in their house and not letting China in. that doesnt mean China wont have Internet.

Presumably, the Zeus "attack" would be the cyber-criminals and the others would be foreign intelligence services. One has been attributed to China.

He mentioned more than one attack over a period of time leading up to 3 months ago, so that would justify the "under cyber-attack" headline in my opinion.

Its hardly a surprise, commercial internet security companies in the never-ending pursuit of paying staff less have moved their development teams to China. Having given them the means is it any wonder that we're now under attack.

I'm sorry, but not so long ago we were al hiding under the beds from the Commie Menace that was Communist China. I don't remember any revolution in China to dismantle the nightmare of a communist regime, and now we're paying the price.
