I'm glad you can't see behind my eyes
I wouldn't wish my thoughts on anyone
An internal eternal eclipse best describes me
Darkness surrounded by light
Tears amidst the joy
Screaming in the silence
Constantly

I am the conundrum
Lies built upon lies
Time and frustration slowly eroding
Misery and pain my only true love
The only refuge I know is solitude
The only love I have is loss
What kind of life is this?

I spread my anguish
On those whose only crime is caring
Who wants to hurt alone?
Destroying any chance I have
Of finding living salvation
I don't even know what I feel
And I'm sorry

Will there be no end to my personal Hell?
Am I destined to be endlessly tortured?
You can't grant me forgivness
When my heart is the one bleeding
Slowly destroying myself
To save those I cherish
When will it end?

Ever have a dream where you're falling?
Plunging through the inky blackness
Not sure what lies below
But anticipating the sudden stop?
That's my day to day
Clawing for a handhold
But slipping away

My mouth is a cesspool
My mind a quagmire
My heart the only land between
But it's been raining in my soul
And pretty soon my feet will be wet
I'm drowning inside
And forgot how to swim

This is actually a tribute to people suffering with mental illness. People who can't escape from the prison of their own minds. I had a friend commit suicide a little over a week ago and I've been a little depressed. I stumbled across this poem, unfinished in one of my notebooks and I felt inspired to finish it. Poetry helps keep me from losing my mind. It helps me to express things that are hard to describe by turning words into emotion.

I hope you all enjoy and take a moment to think about those who are lost.

Im really sorry about your friend.
Poetry can be very therapeutic.

People who can't escape from the prison of their own minds

That sums it up well.
I would like to tell you that I enjoyed it, which I did, but that just doesn't seem right to say.

I understand it. Well written.
I would like to read more of yours. Makes me want to go dig up some of my old poems.
