The Wikileaks saga has transfixed the world, with politicians and punters alike stunned by the intriguing revelations from the leaked US embassy cables. At 6pm (AEDST) today Julian Assange, Wikileak's founder, will speak via videolink to Australians at an event in Federation Square, Melbourne.

The man Sarah Palin said should be hunted as a terrorist and whose activities Julia Gillard pre-emptively judged as "illegal" is at the centre of the debate over freedom of speech. You can watch him speak on an internet video stream at 6pm here.

With only 4 days before Assange faces court on extradition charges, this could be one of the only chances to hear directly from the man at the centre of the Wikileaks controversy. So bookmark the page, set an alarm, and join us at 6pm tonight (Melbourne time):

Sorry, i searched Julian Assange and nothing came up, I didn't realise there was going to be other speakers either.
The email made it sound like a big deal about Assange.

No probs - just didnt think it was 'Breaking News' material - So i place it in Social Issues.
The 1st thing to go through my mind was "How did he get back into Australia undetected?" Until i read that it is a recording.

Im watching it right now to. I was under the impression Assange would be speaking Live, but I guess that wasnt the case. Im not sure what time his speech was recorded either.

Also, it seems Assange is talking via the chat on the right side of the screen on the live link. Theres alot of people talking on the chat, and cant really keep up with everything, and i dont know if it even is the real Assange either, it might just be someone using his name. From what I have read from his "username", he basically has said "Dont forget, theres more people to the Wikileaks team than just me."

Edit - Another thing that caught my eye was how the current speaker (at the time I type this), Lizzie, somewhat compares how Al-Jazeera is nearly runner up to Wikileaks, because Al-Jazeera tries to report the truth compared to other news organizations.(Her words).
