Pretty sure the reason "2012" was released was not to warn us..it's because the Independence Day creators decided that with all the interests regarding 2012; poor acting + amazing special effects = box office receipts!

That's probably why more alien movies are coming out right now - a rise in paranoia/conspiracy theories and hot button issues = the dollar.

Trust me. The only thing that matters to studios is $$$. It's rather unrealistic to think otherwise.
