Understand my friend that this isnt the same america anymore you have a right to be proud but try not to be so
disillusioned by patriotism because the government that "represents" you doesnt represent you it resents you for your free will that may be nudged in certain directions from time to time but never controled in masses that is unless you watch nothing but CNN or FAUX news I guess its true the masses really do act at random this is what scares TPTB the most Uncertainty not being able to control or effect as a whole focus that chi brother be proud of being a free thinker not an idealistic society that no longer exists dont get me wrong I see what your saying but what we are now is a pipe dream an american pipe dream that just got flushed backed up and now our bowl runeth over and by the way all those things you listed you dont have to live in any specific country to exercise you can do any of them anywhere you just have to suffer the consequences for it so yes I am proud to not of being american but being a free thinking "human being" and I will do that anywhere my creator sees it needed no matter the repercussions thier called god given rights life liberty and the persuit of happiness sometimes called Natural Rights--those possessed by Man under the Laws of Nature, meaning under the laws of God's creation. Now maybe one can clearly see what George Bush meant when he said in his 9/11/1991 speech that "We have before us the opportunity to forge for ourselves and for future generations a new world order -- a world where the rule of law, not the law of the jungle, governs the conduct of nations". Hmm no more natural right s no more law of the land only totalitarianism with its rule of law always subjected to change my rules never change they are very simplistic in "nature" Be free in mind no matter where you are that makes you better then american it makes you one of us Human.

I love my country, family, friends, and the chaotic American.........culture...which is like the world was thrown in a blender. I have fought for this country and would again.

But the politicians, judges, etc who work tirelessly to turn us into third world slaves are pissing me off

I am proud because I have the freedom to make my own choices, for better or worse.

This is true in any country. The question is what consequences are you prepared to accept for those choices?

I am proud because I have the freedom to practice ANY religion!

Not exactly. You cannot practice certain religions that use certain plants as their sacraments even though they are not harming anyone.

I am free because I have a right and the ability to become educated in any subject I choose.

Generally agree here with the limitation of the knowledge being available to be educated with.

I am free because I can become rich, or I can become poor.

As long as you pay up to a 40% and more of the fruits of your labors to the Mob er ah I mean the government...

I am free because I have found GOD, LOVE and FAMILY.

Won't argue with ones spiritual beliefs

I am proud of my brothers and sisters who have also found freedom and success that our forefathers have sewn.

Not exactly the freedom our forefather knew when the fruits of our labors are stolen without our consent in the name of the public good etc.

I am free because there is freedom of speech but that doesn't mean I have to take anything at face value.

Unless it is politically incorrect speech then you might be brought up and charges of a hate crime.

I am free because I am not a victim or a pawn, I am free to choose.

Yes you are, you are a victim of theft of the fruits of your labors against your will, and if you served in the military then you were a pawn for Corporate interests in other countries. And we are all pawns to keep the politically connected in power and stealing the wealth of our nation.

I can be a carpenter, architect or an astronaut, thats up to me and my choices.

As long as you pay your protection money to the mob in the way of taxes, licenses, permits, fines, and fees etc.

I am lucky to be born in a country which gave me every opportunity to succeed.

Actually they have limited your opportunities to succeed by demanding a share of the fruits of your labors and regulating every industry into oblivion. Not many jobs in the above named professions for that very reason.

I am fortunate enough to have an education and see my friends die from old age.

Would that we could all be so fortunate.

I have succeeded in not letting other people bring me down, but I was fortunate to have been brought up out of darkness.

This is good however don't let illusion be the basis of staying positive because all illusions eventually dissipate.

I am lucky that the cops arrested me for driving drunk, they probably saved my life.

Score one for the cops for a change.

I am fortunate that they didn't beat me to a pulp.

The fear of being beaten by cops seems to contradict that you are free. Even though they legitimately arrested you only in a police state does one fear a beating by them.

I am lucky for being a citizen, I am lucky that people 200 years ago understood my plight.

Too bad you don't understand their plight. If you are a citizen who is your King? Citizens have allegiance to a Sovereign. Sovereigns are free men owing allegiance to no man.

They did not make a new government overnight, they spent decades making things right.

They did better then anyone else has to date however they did not do everything right and we have squandered much of what they did do right.

They did not free the entire world but rather they freed me, so that I could tell you all.

No one is more enslaved then he who thinks he is free when he is not. The freedom you describe is an illusion.

Don't chose a new government in just one night.

Ok how about choose no government and act as true free men

Not trying to rain on your parade here but just a reality check. I am proud of the America and the freedoms she once stood for. However I am not proud of the current Amerika we see unfolding before our eyes. And the reason I posted this was if we do not pull our collectives heads out the once free America and Shining light of the world will perish and that would be devastating not only to America but to the world. Ignoring what is going on to stay positive will do nothing to insure America does not perish and has a chance to be restored to her former glory and beyond.

I am just wandering if the residents that were devastated by hurricane katrina and then neglected by the us gov't are as pround to be an american.

Do you mean some of those residents that I saw at the Giants / Saints game in Giants stadium that fall pissing everyones tax money away with their FEMA debit cards? You can imagine my pride at their being American.
As for me, I agree with most of the items in the OP. Someone brought up a good point that most other countries and cultures feel the same pride, as they should.

America was mostly founded by people with grit, a dream, determination and hard work. If most the people hit by Katrina has the same attributes then they would be back on their feet by now. This country wasn't made by people sitting around waiting on the government to take care of then....they did it themselves.

Most the people in La. would have been better of if they had planned better for such an event, had emergency supplies and made wiser choices. I personally wouldn't live beside an ocean that was 15' higher than the land and depend on a dirt wall to hold back the ocean.

New Orleans wasn't the only city hit by Katrina, why are they still struggling and can't seem to help themselves?

Yes but all of the above is only allowed to be expressed in the fixed system you are part of.

I can understand were you're coming from. I'm proud to be Canadian for the values we instill. But we are far from free in the Americas. Be " too out spoken" and there will be repercusions. You can't speak the truth with out being a little bit weary of who is listening. And as for the religion thing, IMO, being true to TPTB and being true to religion is one of the same.

My signature "None are so enslaved than those who think that they are free" is a paraphrase from Van Goethe. What he actualy said was
"None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free"
What he ment is that if the slaves know they are slaves then they will rise up and take power. But if the slaves believe they are free, they have no reason to rise against the slavers, since they don't know there are any. Thus the slavers don't have to worry about their safety and all they need to do is to make sure the slaves still think they are free. Such a system is sustainable for eternity. Therefore the people are "more hopelessly enslaved", because there is no hope to be set free.

I am proud because I have the freedom to make my own choices, for better or worse.

UNLESS those choices are not approved by the government or the majority 51%

I am proud because I have the freedom to practice ANY religion!

Unless it is Islam: You'll be looked at as a white domestic terrorists

I am free because I have a right and the ability to become educated in any subject I choose.

If you qualify for financial aid or can pay for your studies in cash

I am free because I can become rich, or I can become poor.

Every single country in the whole world has poor AND rich people - Define "RICH"

I am free because I have found GOD, LOVE and FAMILY.

I am sure that God was not lost - Also, what makes you think that your religion is the RIGHT religion?

I am proud of my brothers and sisters who have also found freedom and success that our forefathers have sewn.

This freedom your forefathers have sewn, did it come about by denying and stealing the God (the one you found) given, unalienable freedoms held by other people like Native American Indians?

I am free because there is freedom of speech but that doesn't mean I have to take anything at face value.

Go into an airport and yell BOMB! And see how that freedom of speech works for ya!

I am free because I am not a victim or a pawn, I am free to choose.

To choose to be a victim? Stop paying your property taxes and see how fast you become a "victim"...

I can be a carpenter, architect or an astronaut, thats up to me and my choices.

Unless you do not pay for your LICENSES to "be" that, even if you are fully trained and qualified, without the .gov permission in the form of a license, you cannot be any of the above.

I am lucky to be born in a country which gave me every opportunity to succeed.

The country can't give you squat! You went out there and got the opportunities yourself and could have done so in ANY country as long as you knew how to work the system

I am fortunate enough to have an education and see my friends die from old age.

Did you know that Costa Rica has one of the highest literacy rates in the world as well as longevity of life?

I have succeeded in not letting other people bring me down, but I was fortunate to have been brought up out of darkness.

Good for you! But being brought up out of darkness - care to elaborate?

I am lucky that the cops arrested me for driving drunk, they probably saved my life.

So you need a nanny government to save you from your own decisions INSTEAD of taking responsibility and be a man / woman and NOT drive drunk? And are HAPPY about someone having the power to take your LIBERTY away??? WTF!!!???

I am fortunate that they didn't beat me to a pulp.

Oh, thank you massa for not wipping me! I won't do it again massa - thank tha lawd!

I am lucky for being a citizen, I am lucky that people 200 years ago understood my plight.

Thanks mom! Only God knows where I would be now if we would not have been from the right race 200 years ago...

They did not make a new government overnight, they spent decades making things right.

It surely took decades to take the right from the people to coin their own money and substitute it with a new version of monopoly money - Thank God for our .gov which is JUST right!

They did not free the entire world but rather they freed me, so that I could tell you all.

If you know that people have died so you could be "free" - how come you are not out there fighting for other's FREEDOMS???

Don't chose a new government in just one night.

I choose to be responsible for my own actions - I do not need government!

Not all of the Native Americans were eradicated, most of them were just displaced or interbred with the Europeans.

Many of us here know were were colonized by the British, but our ancestors fought to be free of the British Empire. I am proud of what my forefathers intended with the foundation of this country. I am just not proud of what this country has become. Those of us that wish to be able to stand up and do something about it are unable to as those that we go to for help to back us up are too afraid to do so. Fear of incarceration, fear of being ostracized, or even fear of death is what bars most people from voicing an opinion, or even standing up for their beliefs. If more people were willing to rise up and willing to enact the changes that would once again make all Americans proud of our country, it would be possible.

The US will not fall, there are far too many of us. It is headed for some tough times ahead I agree.

What has happened is that over the last 100 years the socialist democratic party has been manipulating the American way of life, the socialist party clearly is a problem for America, but those that are citizens have the same rights as we do. We need to restore our American values and not sway away from our honor and integrity. This nation was founded on those principals to allow for freedom, what is happening even on this very thread is that the majority of people are falling prey to the socialist propaganda which has become a cancer around the entire world.

It saddens me that so many here are just anti-american, but it comes as no surprise.

Do something good and most people forget, make a mistake and people will remember forever.

So we have made some mistakes, but make no mistake. The founding fathers of this country were genius and have anticipated this day to come. The genius of the US constitution is at work for us every day.

To the OP, If you continue to rely on your government to tell you what your rights are you will never be free.

If you were really free it would be self evident. No amount of repeating "land of the free" by the gov or media should be necessary.

I don't mean to sound anti American as the situation is pretty much the same here in the UK.

I don't rely on the gov for anything and I agree. There are two major forces at play here in America, one is the true capitalists which believe in self reliance, the other one is the socialist democratic movement which exploits Americans especially those on welfare to continue on with their nefarious deeds.

I am on balance happy to be an American, but I am not "proud" of it.

Frankly -- I find it hard to be proud of something I had no choice in being, and had nothing to do with "becoming," in any way, shape or form. Yes, I happened to emerge from an American's vagina, but I am pretty sure I didn't have any control over that. Over all, I am glad that I was born in Southern California, and not in, say North Africa. Not because there is anything wrong with being North African, but because that is a much more difficult life, with far more hardship all around, on average. If I could have chosen I would have been born where I was born, because -- though we were poor enough that my single mother worked TWO JOBS and still qualified for food stamps -- we were on balance "richer" than 90% of all humans who ever lived, in the history of the planet earth. I am HAPPY about that, but I am not "proud" of it.

I take pride in the things I accomplish that are entirely within my own control. If I conceive of a new song, and sit down to write it, and then practice and record it, then I have made a thing with my own spirit, mind, heart and hands and therefore *might* have some reason to legitimately feel the emotion of pride towards it / about it.

I try to be careful, even then, honestly. You don't have to be especially religious, or even "aware" to understand through your own personal experience that too much pride always goeth before a fall.

Unfortunatley OP there are alot of first world countries where you can do the exact same things as you list in your post; the difference is they have better education; quality of living; better infastructure and longer life expectancy.

Due to the economic crisis America is on the verge of becoming a 2nd world country--we can't educate our kids; are falling behind in science and math scores compared to the rest of the world; and conservatives continue to push the meme that education is not important nor necessary to the success of our country.
