It's not going to do a thing to the DORMANT winter wheat crop. Winter is why it goes dormant till spring and it's BETTER to be covered in snow. And the cows will survive it's only a snowstorm. Whoever wrote that needs to finish high school and as far as transportation it's only going to be 2-3 days and like everybody hits the grocery stores farmers are ready to ride it out. They are about the last people we should worry about in a blizzard. proud member of a farm family

Thanks for starting this thread. I'm in St. Louis where it's supposed to be one of the hardest hit. They're saying between 12" and 20" of snow. I just got back from taking my daughter to work. The roads are mostly deserted. I only saw a handfull of other cars on the road. No heavy snow yet, just sleet.

Was listening to a weather report on MSNBC and they were reporting thunder and lightning in the snow storm! Not that unusual, but what was weird was he said that the sky was an eerie 'green' color! Wasn't it just a few days ago that the weather reporters were talking about a 'superstorm' striking the US?

Fact or Fiction?: If the Sky Is Green, Run for Cover—A Tornado Is Coming
Hang on Dorothy, you may be in for a rough ride when trying to predict cyclones by the color of the sky

By Meredith Knight | June 14, 2007

GREEN TWISTER: The sky can appear green during any severe storm, not just those that produce cyclones.

If the sky turns green during a thunderstorm, gather up your pets and other loved ones and head for the cellar, a twister is on the way. So goes the common wisdom in much of the central U.S.—and other tornado-prone regions in the world, like Australia—when faced with a threatening sky (although some swear green means hail). Scientifically speaking, however, little evidence supports either the tornado or hail claims, though there is some evidence for green thunderstorms.
