I don't think such a thing would be allowed. I think we would find out just how tight a grasp our government have on us as citizens. A bigger question maybe, would our military fire upon its fellow citizens?

Of course they would let us. They would just install the next manchurian canidate.

Don't be silly.

We are a civilized people and enjoy a revolution every couple of years via the election system of our Representative Republic. Generally the change of power in America proceeds without violence, riots, killings, secret police, allah crazed jihadists, etc.

We attempted to provide Egypt with the tools to form a better nation for their citizens. Instead they chose Jihad.

Jihad = Violence
Representation = Calm

So, no. What is happening in Egypt has no heritage in American culture. What is happening in Egypt is a result of Islamic thought not Western thought.

I should mention that, here on ATS, Jihad is denied and Western thinking the only recognized method with which to observe the universe. Here on ATS, Islamic thought and Jihad are a fantasy I thought up a couple weeks ago to fuel my unbridled hatred for muslims.

It would be much different here in the states if we tried to overthrow the president.
1st off, so many people would use the attempt as an excuse to loot and destroy, not like in Egypt, on a much bigger scale. It would be chaos.
2nd I don't believe the military would use deadly force to disperse the actual protesters, I do believe they would use it on the looters.
I just don't see that many people here willing to try and overthrow the government, everyone is too complacent.

Wow, did you make that up all by yourself or did you read that somewhere?

The people of Egypt have finally had enough of a dictator who has been in power for 30-odd years. They saw the Tunisians successfully do the same so it enlightened and empowered them to do the same thing.

Why is that so hard to understand?

Oh and what planet do you live on where you think your vote actually means something in todays obviously-rigged elections?

Really? I guess you are not familiar with history at all. Try reading some.
How is it possible giving them democratic tools is installing a dictator. It's like in Lebanon when the people voted for Hamas and we were up in arms. It's opinions like yours that hurt what democracy really is. Oh and by the way it's not our job to give anyone tools. It's why we are broke. It's our job to trade and fo business with countries and not get involved in sovereign affairs.

when you vote in the us you are merely lining the pockets of your chosen candidate and his freinds, its the same in the uk and all foreign policies will be the same. poor people will gain slightly from one person being in power and rich will gain slightly from the other but other than that there will be no difference.

You inability to see the 1,400 year long Jihad does not stop Jihad.

The Egyptian people are being used as tools to install an Islamic system of social control. There will be less individual freedom in Egypt and more Sharia law as a result of this. The do-gpoders, socialists, communists, etc. seen marching with the Egyptians are being used as unthinking idiots. The perfect cloak behind which The Muslim Brotherhood has been growing their power base. When the dust settles, what will emerge is a nation slipping further into the abyss of the retrograde empire of the House of Islam.

1,400 years of Jihad victory point to no other result.

Where have you been? We students protested the Vietnam War for gosh sakes at Kent State...and the National Guard fired on us and killed us! Killed us for protesting on a college campus. Shot us. D-e-a-d.

True, but the nation does not go through a period of senseless self-immolation when this happens. For the most part, life here in America gets a little bit better with each passing decade. It does not happen by accident.

Our system of social control, while imperfect, has allowed our nation to remain mostly calm, mostly peaceful, and very prosperous. It does not happen by accident.

Our culture allows this to emerge. A culture built over thousands of years. Western culture and Islamic cultre are light years apart. Light years.

There is no way in hell any sort of protest or civil revolt toward your president would be successful in removing him , your only chance is to assasinate him. With regard to your second question, depends on the scenario. Cold blooded shooting with rifles i would say a resounding no! A larger weapon fired remotely from a distance, possibly.

Yikes. I am not sure you have a firm grasp on history.

I try not to judge because people being exposed to the vast Jihad raging across the planet find it too alien to even consider. But I can assure you, if you take the time to read up on a little military history, you will notice that the last 1,400 years has been a great age of Islamic expansion. From Western China to the streets of London, muslims call for Jihad and the ascendancy of the planetary Empire ruled by sharia law.

Egypt is falling to Jihad before your very eyes and yet you deny Jihad exists.

I think it highly depends on whether or not the elite can divide and conquer, whether the people can dump their political beliefs and labels that make them "special" for a moment and rally together in a PEACEFUL protest. Also, as Noam Chomsky said, the American government does a heck of a job deluding the American public away from issues and what is important for what is trivial. I honestly think the decline of America will come quietly and with only futile objections.

Common ground

Unless the US President cancelled the elections and declared himself/herself supreme dictator America doesn't have to. We just wait a year or two and vote the new person in. And in the mean time the American backlash generally causes members of his own party to lose elections in a landslide. We just witnessed this last November.

1400 years f jihad? I think you seriously need some history lessons. I recommend researching the ottoman empire, the Spanish inquisition, the moores etc. Jihad is a modern movement post ww2. If you really look at how European imperialism took advantage of the region you will understand things better. It's very obvious you are total ignorant of history. By the way Egypt has every right to what ever governance they want. If they decide to attack us for real as a nation we have the right to wipe them off the map. But until then it's none of our business what they do. The west is in decay because of ignorance of our own problems. We are too busy trying to tell others what to do. If we focused on actually maintaining our ideals the whole world would benefit. They may actually be inspired to be like us. By occupying and interfering with middle east politics we actually have created a stronger Islamic political culture. It's a common psychological effect and response to bullying to unify against an aggressor. The CIA themselves have done a lot of research on the subject and have warned of this.

We get rid of the douche bags through our election system. The virtual violence expressed through the voting ritual is far superior and more civilized than actual violence expressed through killing folks.

You notion of Western culture is odd.

Dude, Americans protest? That sort if thing doesn't happen anymore here. We are so use to the crap that happens here that we don't bother to do anything about anything.

Plus, if we did protest it would be a disaster. Guaranteed to be nothing but an excuse to loot.

Also, everybody here is bragging about our election system. Do your research on our "glorious" election system on the last 3 or 4 presidential elections, then go around trying to brag about it. Our system sucks ass. We're just too worried about what happens on TV to realize anything.

Actually I am a vet. I have spent 2 years in Iraq, two years guarding the embassy in Hungary. I have travelled from Egypt to Croatia. You are the typical paranoid armchair expert. Jihad is a modern phenominom. It came about from the formation of Israel. Started in Libya and Egypt. Spread throughout the region as the Israelis were fire bombing the locals out of their new Israel. The malatov cocktail was invented by Israeli mobs to throw in homes and shops of local Muslims. You also negate to explain the back out and backstabbing of Arab European treaties by the Europeans. What about catholic expansion? Freedom of religion is something we have in America. We should focus on our own country and all it's problems. Unless like a communist or socialist you want to tell people what to think or who to worship.
